Every winter I seem to get a cold which sits in my sinuses and gives me months of post nasal drip. Tempted to try a salt cave but wondering if they really work?

Works for me - sinusitis. I haven't had any treatment from GP for 2 years now. I think the salt cave is wonderful. We've put salt lamps in our living room and bedroom

Thanks AbbieLexie. Is it something you regularly do or only when you have symptoms?

I got interested in salt cave therapy after reading an article about an asthma specialist that recommended them. Every time dd gets a cold she ends up on steroids and frequently in hospital with viral wheeze. We couldnt get to one of the therapy places bu in the spirt of "fuck it, we might as well try it" I got a salt lamp- she has it on in her room overnight. The day we got it she'd been up the night before and was very wheezy. That was the last time she wheezed! No idea if it helps sinuses but it has been amazing for DD's chest.

I ended up having 3 or 4 courses of antibiotics and the following year the same pattern began. I was very concerned about requiring so many courses of antibiotics. My daughter's colleague took her daughter (asthma & eczema) and recommended it. My Mother's day present was 2 sessions. Session 1 was very pleasant but I wouldn't have gone back as didn't feel / note any improvement. Session 2 was a revelation. I then booked a course (it's cheaper). I can't remember now but I went twice a week until the sinusitis was resolved and then gradually cut back. Any symptoms returned I went back again until they resolved. My eczema patches also disappeared!
If the bulb goes in the salt lamp some of my symptoms will begin to return within a week. We have bought this lamp and have insisted it is permanently on in my MIL's (Asthma) bedroom. Her chest infections and hospital admissions have been reduced.
Happy to answer any other questions you may have.

Oh wow....this sounds like something I need. ...can someone give me a novice explanation?

AbbieLexie · 11/10/2018 18:54

@Whywonttheyletmeusemyusername - go to the website - it's full of information. There is an explanation but I think I would get muddled trying to explain it. Our salt cave sells the lamps and other bits and pieces. We now have an enormous salt lamp in the living room as downstairs is all open plan. Elderly SIL visiting who is COPD and commented on her breathing being easier whilst visiting us - she hadn't noticed the lamp and thought it was the Scottish air!

Google is my friend....thanks tho @Abbie I've got a slight grasp on the ions and electron bits...I think !! Is a Salt Cave a 'thing' tho? I've never heard of one. The Himalayan salt lamps sound fab and sound like just what I need (chest cavity problems ) Do you leave them on all day? And can anyone advise the best places to buy them? (I so wish I lived nearer to Scotland !)

The lamps are on 24/7. The cost is the same as the light in the fridge. Salt Cave is a franchise. I found the most cost effective for us was the Salt Cave itself.
