How have I got both a positive and negative on chlamydia testing?

So after a year I decided to be tested for STI's again around a week ago and the results have come back today and the lady gave me the dreaded phone call...
She called me to say that they couldn't actually say for sure whether I had chlamydia or not because there is two different parts to the results and one has come back positive for chlamydia and the other has come back negative and that I would need to be retested as soon as possible.
I am going to try and get an appointment tomorrow but what I would like to know is whether any of you have had the same thing happen false positive/ false negative and what the result ending up being?
I'm genuinely so confused because I haven't been able to find anyone who has had the same

Well that's a bit rum, isn't it?
Bumping for you, as I've no idea I'm afraid- hopefully some lovely person will be on after work this evening. Try not to worry Thanks

Thanks very much, was a bit wobbly this morning but have calmed myself down and realised I can’t do anything until tomorrow when I can get an appointment and that it’s not the end of the world
Thanks Smile

I’m assuming that you had multiple swabs taken? eg oral, anal, vaginal depending on what intercourse you have. You can test positive in one area (eg vaginal) and negative in another area (eg oral). The results are separate and dependant on the area of the swab, rather than you as a whole. So you probably have chlamydia in one area where the swab was placed, but not in another. Surprised the nurse/doctor didn’t explain this.

However if you had only one area tested than ignore me!

It was only one area, just a vaginal swab taken so I honestly have no idea. The woman on the phone said it’s very rare results come out like this and even more rarely it can be due to cross contamination in the lab or the user not using the swab correctly. At 27 years of age I know how to correctly do a swab and have done them before with no issues so I know there is no fault there.
Thanks though, I would completely understand if there was more than one swab
