Teething and temperatures

My DS is 6 months old tomorrow and has been dribbling for Britain for the last month or so. Today he has spent the whole day chewing on his finger on one particular spot. This evening though he has a temperature of 38.7, so I thought I would have a look and check if temperature is a known side effect of teeting (he's eating normally, but he is a bit grumpier than usual). I have found websites that say there are no other physical signs of teething - and others that say that a slight increase of temperature when teeting can be normal - but what is slight. What has anyone else noticed?

I think it's a little high to be solely down to teething - he's probably got a virus as well, which is execerbating (sp?)his teething symptoms. I would give him a bit of calpol before putting him to bed.

Ds had a febrile convulsion cutting a tooth. He went to a&e and stayed in hospital overnight and they could find nothing else wrong with him.

Thank you both for your advice - he was grumbly all night, but this morning the temperature had gone and a tooth had cut! and everything seems back to normal! Who knows whether he also had a quick virus too ;-)
