Sinusitis help

Can anyone recommend any tried and tested methods to relieve sinus pain?

I've never had an issue with sinuses but for the past 3-4 days it's been building and today I can hardly function! My face hurts, I can't cough or sniff without throbbing pain. My eyes and ears hurt and bending down makes me feel like My head will explode and to top it off my teeth hurt 😔

Paracetamol isn't touching it and I'm nightshift tonight....help

Have you tried steam inhalation? I have one of those facial saunas and it's amazing when my sinuses are all blocked up.
One thing to remember is not to blow your nose too hard as this can make the pain worse.

Also - could you take stronger painkillers? Ibuprofen for when you're at work? Codeine is ok for short term use and I find it helps me to sleep!

hugs

My daughter uses sinutabwhich is paracetamol and decongestant.
Don’t take it as well as paracetamol.
You could just get a decongestant from the chemist, they will advise you

samlovesdilys · 08/10/2018 18:31

Salt water rinses will help (can buy in boots), steam definitely helps and I take nurofen. If it starts 'dripping' a yellow liquid (sorry, grim I know) it's definitely infection and you will need AB and nasal spray. If you use a spray I recommend lying on the bed with your head just over the edge so it is lower than body. Good luck, sinusitis is horrid.

Thanks all. I can't take ibuprofen-stomach issues which are massively affected by it.

I didn't think of steam I'll give that a try in the morning when I'm back home.

I'll need to get to the chemist to try and get something else to take. Even if it stops my teeth hurting I'll be happy.

It's going to be an awfully long night, but least I have tips for tomorrow.

Sterimar

Sterimar

Sterimar

Did I mention Sterimar?

Seriously, it's amazing. I get real frequent sinusitis and always clear them now with Sterimar and without antibiotics

Quartz2208 · 08/10/2018 21:27

Yes sterimar - my DD gets blocked sinus and our routine is Sterimar/Nasal Spray/Vicks (or vicks deriative) on chest and then in hot water for steam inhalation and anti histamine (for the allergy part)

TomHardysNextWife · 08/10/2018 21:28

You need a nasal spray like Nasonex, works really well for me.

And cut out dairy for a few days. That will help massively. Lots of fluids, paracetamol and standing for ages in the shower breathing in the steam. And an electric vaporiser is nothing short of miraculous. I got one from Boots about 25 years ago and it's still going strong.

Helps me to keep mine warm. As in, keep my whole face warm & avoid a draught on it. That said, I haven't truly had issues in years. Some twinges this morning but seem to have recovered, thank goodness.

A neti pot is good

Sinutab, it has paracetamol and a decongestant which is what you need for immediate relief.

Then get yourself a NeilMed Sinus Rinse pack (it's a salt/saline rinse essentially), worth every penny, it flushes out all of the snot gunk instantly and gives you a good few hours relief from the pressure in your head.

I'm pregnant and had a horrible sinus infection 2 weeks ago, I really wanted to avoid antibiotics (I have had so many in the past 2 yrs, just a personal thing). I stuck with paracetamol for the pain and the sinus rinse to relieve the pressure and within 3 days I was feeling well again. I'm prone to sinus infections, I seem to get them every time after I've had a bad cold.

Hope you feel better soon.

bakingdemon · 08/10/2018 22:06

My husband just endured six weeks of this before finally giving into my nagging to go to the doctor. A week of antibiotics cleared it up. If steaming/saltwater rinse/over the counter sprays don't work, go to your GP.

FTFF · 09/10/2018 14:54

Thanks for all the advice. Decongestant and steam have helped a bit.

I can deal with most of it but the sore teeth is awful. I'm not a good patient and think my colleagues nearly killed my moaning and last night!
