Back to square one - re referral frustration!

I had hip issues with it locking and being very painful for years. It's on here somewhere several times where I was asking for advice I think.

I was...
Sent to gp. Told to see how it went.
Went back to gp. Blood tests for arthritis. Negative. 'It'll settle down'.
Back to gp - x rays.
They lost my results.
Then told me on the phone they were fine.
Then called me in to tell me that my hip was fine but I had arthritis in my spine - which causes no problems.

It still was problematic so they referred me to physio.
Had 10 lots. No better. They referred me to the muscularskeletal dept - a tiny building in the local uni car park. They decided I needed more physio with a chartered physiotherapist.

Back on to the waiting list they were going to put me until I reminded them I'd been referred from their dept to the other appt then straight back, so they put me back on the list straight away.

Bear with me....

Chartered physio tried, but got no improvement. So I was finally referred to an orthopaedic surgeon. At that appt, he pointed out my problem on the xray instantly, then expressed his disgust that it hadn't been picked up as it was now 3 YEARS since the xray had been taken. I haven't complained that it wasn't noticed by the gp/whoever as I feel that's pointless.

I had a CAT scan and a steroid injection which then pointed out that I needed surgery.

3 years ago I had an arthroscopy where they reshaped the top of the femur to take off excess bone as well as scooping out excess bone from the socket in my hip.

After a few follow up appointments, I was signed off but told that I could be re referred if I ever needed to be. I assumed - probably wrongly it seems - that I'd be re referred to their dept.

I'm starting to have problems and a lot of pain 3 years down the line so the gp has re referred me.

Back to the muscular skeletal dept. Not the orthopaedic people. I look forward to them explaining at that appt why it's them I need to see. Frustrating.

Very frustrating but it is the pathway. It's been identified that in some part of the country, surgery levels, which are very expensive were too high. Some surgeons are very keen to do surgery, after all it is their profession but intensive research has shown that surgery outcomes are not always what was expected and other interventions are more applicable. Same with injections.

Very frustrating for those who really need either.
