Erratic Periods... what's going on????

My periods were normal once my DD was born in Jan 2005 and then the cycles got really long for a few months. GP ordered a load of blood tests, everything looked normal apparently and they started getting regular again. Following an ectopic in January of this year they were notmal and now have started getting longer again. this is after 15 years of practically being able to tell the time by them (8 of those on the pill).

Anyone got any theories or similar experiences?

How old are you?!

Just turned 30, hopefully not menpausal if that's what you mean?!

No....I didn't mean that!!!!! LOL!!!

I had my second dd when I was 37 and I have never been the same since with periods and was told that after children it can take years for your periods to settle back down to normal, sometimes they are never the same!

My periods after my dd number 2 was born were dreadful. They would fluctuate between having two a month to nothing - I never knew where I was with them which was really difficult to live with because I was so regular beforehand - like you I could tell you the date based on my periods!

Did you have a scan/D & C after your ectopic in January? After I had dd2 I had an internal scan and they found that the reason why I was bleeding so erratically is because some of the sack she was in had been left behind. It was tiny but enough to really mess my periods up!

I had no idea we could stay so haywire for so long! Have just thought, was actually on 'the patch' after DD was born which is why i was regular i guess but because I had been regular before i just imagined it was me.

Good to know it's normal not to be normal! Thanks so much for posting. If they get really barmy I'll get checked out but my ectopic was treated surgically, they whipped out the whole tube and then i had a period 6 weeks later so I'm thinking, hoping, it's all OK in there.

I'd say you're perfectly normal!!! Your body has been through a lot remember and quite recently too.

I've never been the same with my periods after both my children. I'm told its normal especially in view of my age (40) so I just put up with it! I'm on the mini pill which puts a stop to my periods completely now because beforehand I couldn't stop bleeding and was becoming anaemic.

I wouldn't worry about it....give it time and things will settle down, eventually!xx

I had really annoying periods after DD1, it varied between 28 to 40 days, which did cause unnecessary panic even though I knew I'd been careful.

The pill sorted that out though.

It's a known medical fact that after having children can cause major chaos with periods. Also your age plays a big part in periods and hormones. After I had my first dd (I was 31) I was fine and everything went back to normal. After my second (I was 37) my periods were all over the place. I was told they'd probably never be the same again, hence why I went on to the mini pill, and thank god I did because I'm absolutely fine now. No more children for me...thank you very much!!
