Post nasal drip

My dd is now on week four of a horrible cough. She throat clears every couple of minutes. She has never been prone to coughs but developed this after a sore throat. She's seen two chemists and a GP and had had sprays, tablets to dry her nose up and then a steroid spray. Nothing is helping. She's exhausted as she coughs all the time. Any ideas?

Have you tried piriton?

I have bu to no avail. I'm also not keen on her taking medication every day, like actifed, because the GP has stated that there is nothing else they can do.

How old is she? Lots of people with allergies and post-nasal drip take anti-histamines each day as a matter of course. Lots of people take other more serious types of medication every day- its about weighing up miniscule risk against the health benefits. Daily piriton has got to be better than a chronic cough, that can damage tubes and contribute to asthma and other health conditions.

Very valid points. I'm happy for an antihistamine daily, just not a paracetamol based product for ongoing use. I'll try her on a 24 hr tablet for a week. Thanks!

You can always give it a try and discontinue if you feel it's not working or causing any adverse effects. Really hope it works for her- I've been in this position with my own dc, having to make decisions re medication, and it's such a worry. Flowers
