Lower leg pain - how long to heal?

Lower leg has been hurting for a few weeks now. Don't remember stumbling or anything. Been to GP who ruled out DVT and said it was calf strain. Hmm Pain seems to move around my lower leg. GP said could take 6-8 weeks to heal. Really getting me down. Is it worth pushing for a scan? Anybody had similar?

I took a course of antibiotics recently and one of the side effects listed was joint/muscle pain. Pain came on after course had finished but can't help wondering if it is down to antibiotics?

Or perhaps it is start of varicose veins?

I had similar but it was an overuse injury from running. It did take a good 6-8 weeks to go helped by visiting a sports therapist who advised on exercises and taped it.

Epsom salts baths may help OP.
You could also try a few days on ibuprofen.

Thanks for replies. I can't take ibuprofen but will try harder with exercises and perhaps just need to be patient. Grrr.

Went back to GP today who wasn't helpful really. Said it wasn't varicose veins or DVT. Asked if I'd had back pain as sometimes that can present in leg instead? Surely this can't just be calf strain. Could a DVT be lurking without any of the symptoms? Am so fed up. Anyone got ideas?

A what may seem completely random comment.

I had lower leg pain. it was also uncomfortable to bend my knee. it was a strange dull ache/pain. I also had strange pains in my thumbs/wrists. to cut a long story short I was sent to an advanced physio who suggested I had low magnesium. magnesium is needed to send messages from brain and in my case my quads!. he recommended double dose of magnesium for 2 weeks and Epsom salt baths.

I thought he was barking mad. 2 weeks later the pain in my legs had gone.

magnesium deficiency can be linked to menopause.

that should read

from brain TO my quads

That's interesting Seagulls, something to consider, thank you!

Seagull, that sounds really interesting! I might try it on my battered knees which, after a fall, are taking a very long time to heal.

I had exactly this, 2 weeks of cramp type pain in my calf, and lower leg. Went to the docs and said it was a strained muscle. Another week passed by and it was so painful so I went to a physio. They sent me straight to a&e - i had a blood clot (dvt)
I didn't have any swelling, or redness that would indicate a blood clot. Just the cramp pain.
Go back to your doctors and ask for a blood test, this will show if your D-dimer levels are raised, if they are then you will be sent for a scan.

MamOfTwo · 03/11/2018 13:34

Just a quick update - a D-dimer blood test showed levels were very slightly raised so sent for ultrasound but luckily no clot found. So, still none the wiser and leg still hurts. Sad

Quick update in case it helps anyone in similar situation - it is looking most likely that leg pain is in fact caused by lower right back pain. Sigh. Physio should help otherwise injection and surgery mentioned but hoping it won't come to that. Muscles/nerves are strange, aren't they?!
