Trying to find drink for my 12 year old with calcium?

He doesn't drink milk or anything resembling milk or any other dairy products.
Tropicana used to do an orange juice with added calcium but they seem to have stopped making it.
Any other thoughts/suggestions?

Calcium isn't going to make him grow quicker Confused

Johnb0y · 30/09/2018 22:36

Sorry Bertie, I guess dried cereal is worth a try, I used to like dry cornflakes myself!
And frozen yogurt might be worth a try.
He's probably about average height for his age. It doesn't help that his friends are ridiculously tall for their age and his sister is above average for her age.
I guess I just don't want him to miss out on the 'growth window'.

Thanks Shovingleopard, I'll try the oatly drink, though I have tried similar chocolate drinks before without success!

Chocolate oatly a banana and spinich and kale blends into a good ccallcium rich milkshake or can he nade ahead and frozen iznto lollies. Breakfast biscuits are sometimes fortified and dry sweetened serial is good for snacking.

Jellyjumpers, do you cook the spinach and kale before using in a smoothie to remove the oxalates which reduces the absorption of the calcium (according to Google!)

Lidl do a multivitamin juice like the Tropicana one. It comes in 3 small cartons or one large one. In the section where long life juices are. It's yummy too.

Oops it's 6 in a pack...even better Grin I'm not 100% sure if it contains calcium though Blush

Johnb0y propensity a good smoothie maker will blend raw greens but cooked cab he used if you prefer.

It edition green veggitables can he added to lots of dishes eg sandwiches omletts salads etc.

Rather than specifically focusing on calcium I would suggest looking at diet as a whole. Introducing more fruits veggitables, tinned tidy fish nuts and seeds will be overall beneficial to diet and vitamin intake. Snacks such as yogurt or chocolate coated nuts and seeds, seed bars, chia puddings and avicardo chocolate moose replace foods with few nutrients with nutrient packed foods.

Boys are very variable in their height across the age span from what I notice. You'll see when he goes to secondary school. When they are all around 13/14/15 some still look about 10 and some look like 17. They don't stop growing heightwise until they are closer to 18, if I am not mistaken. The height is more to do with growth hormones than with calcium. He'd want to be on a very poor diet all round for height restriction to take place.
Eggs, and meat all have calcium. As does cheese. Bread has a fair bit of calcium in it too.
Does he eat pizza or toasted cheese or ice-cream or chocolate - they all have calcium. If he's eating a few eggs a week and some red meat he's probably doing okay for calcium.

Sainsbury's is the only supermarket that does Tropicana with added calcium.

Johnb0y · 01/10/2018 22:48

loveyoutothemoon, are you sure you've bought tropicana with calcium in a sainsburys this year because I've checked numerous stores and I think tropicana have stopped producing it in the UK?

loveyoutothemoon · 02/10/2018 07:36

Yes definitely! I drive 5 miles just to buy it. It is a large store though.

cricketmum84 · 02/10/2018 07:48

Have you tried hazelnut milk? With some chocolate nesquik which has added vitamins and minerals. I am currently trying a dairy free diet and hazelnut milk with chocolate powder tastes like Nutella! Yum!

Johnb0y · 02/10/2018 18:33

loveyoutothemoon, do you mind if I ask where the store is? I've checked Sainsbury's online and Tropicana website and other big supermarket website's and none stock it?

My children eat dry cereals cheerios, shreddies, rice Krispies. The only cereals with milk my DD has is Weetabix.
