Getting GP to take tiredness seriously

Jellyjumpers · 30/09/2018 20:47

I have had a range of symptoms over the last two months from pain in my stomach on the left, a hip pain diagnosed as sciatica, random constipation and a general feeling of not being well. While I appreciate that symptoms healing keeping me awake at night will lead to tiredness I do not think the way I feel is normal. I can sleep on my train journey to work, again in the toilet at work he bearly able to keep eyed open in meetings etc

This weekend I have slept well at night for at least nine hours, then had a five six hour sleep yesterday and two hours today. In my last appointment I mentioned this and was told tiredness is normal with pain. Does this sound right particularly as I feel a bit unwell all the time as if I am about to get a cold, with the same sort of tiredness

Could be sleep apnea. Do you snore?

Thatsajokeright · 30/09/2018 20:53

Have you had your thyroid tested?

SugarandVinegar · 30/09/2018 20:54

Have you had a thyroid panel and B12 blood tests, op.
Low thyroid can present with joint pains among other symptoms.

pumkinspicetime · 30/09/2018 20:56

I was super tired all the time even after sleeping and was low in vit d blood tests showed.

redsummershoes · 30/09/2018 20:57

have you had blood tests?
not wanting to scare you but what you describe could be symptoms of blood cancers.
your gp needs to at least order a blood test.

Jellyjumpers · 30/09/2018 20:59

I do not seem to snore. I do tent to wake up feeling like I have kits lots of energy but this does not seem to last until lunchtime.

I think my thyroid should he ok. I had it tested over a couple of years when I was being tested for bowel symptoms later diagnosed as endometriosis. My thyroid results were always well within normal range.

B12 is a possibility the results allways seemed to be getting worse each time I had it tested. I also eat less meat and more plant based foods, so may not be getting enough b12 in my diet.

Pumkin I hope the summer have had has topped up my vitamins d. I tend to allways have some sun exposure with out cream which should boost my levels. However, I do not eat much diarry eggs or cerials so may not get vit d from my diet. How did you get a blood test?

OP posts:
Jellyjumpers · 30/09/2018 21:13

Red summer shoes
I was in hospital for a couple of days as my gp wanted to rule out appendicitis. They did b bloods on admission, which they said were normal. I assume standard abdo pain bloods would pick up in anything had been verry abnormal.

Sounds a bit like me a few years ago, it took me a year fighting with gp to listen to me. I have hypothyroidism and it will only get worse as antibodies positive. I would tick off all symptoms and take to gp and insist on thyroid check. My tests were subclinical but as i was so symptomatic they started me on thyroxine. Unforthnately i put on loads of weight and took over to find good dose of meds to get me feeling better.

Have they tested you for coeliac disease? That can cause joint pain, digestive issues and tiredness amongst other things. There's more info on symptoms on the coeliac UK page. Hope you feel better soon.

Fstar · 30/09/2018 21:15

Sorry cross post, even though they say within normal range you can still have symptoms as everyones normal is different

Jellyjumpers · 30/09/2018 21:18

ThanksFstar how did you yet the gp to take your symptoms seriously?

OP posts:
Jellyjumpers · 30/09/2018 21:20

Whoateallthecheese I had a blood test for celiac a couple of years ago. This came back fine so I assume this probably rules this out.

OP, I went to my GP and told him I was really tired all the time, even after sleeping well and had joint pain particulary in my hands. He ordered blood tests including vit d levels, I have taken a supplement since as food doesn't help that much. I have also had a letter advising that I sit in the sun for 20 minutes three times a week with bare arms. I had been overdoing the sun cream!

Jellyjumpers · 30/09/2018 21:35

Thanks pumkin,

My concern is that they won't take the tiredness seriously, as a week ago the nurse I saw dismissed the tiredness and referred to physieo.

OP posts:
Jellyjumpers · 30/09/2018 21:38

Other random symptoms I am getting include more hair than normal falling out, very dry skin and a feverish feeling which only seems relieved by sleep.

OP posts:
pumkinspicetime · 30/09/2018 21:42

I would go and ask for a blood test to check vit D, iron levels and b12. I couldn't believe how bad I felt, but I only went because a friend felt the same and felt so much better after vit d treatment, she pushed me into going. The strength of the tablets I was perscribed was eye watering.

Jellyjumpers · 30/09/2018 21:48

Thanks yes I will ask for bloods. Were you asked about your level of tiredness? I do not want this to be brushed off after last time.

OP posts:
pumkinspicetime · 30/09/2018 22:05

My GP was really good, I explained that it was a completely unsual level of tiredness and it was impacting my ability to work and care for DC. There wasn't any pushback. I asked for blood tests to check vit and iron levels, I had test, got results and prescription for high strength vit d for 3 months, along with sunbathing advice.

artio0 · 30/09/2018 22:32

I'm no professional but make sure you have a balanced diet and drink enough water! A few of the symptoms you mentioned might just be due to nutrition:

– Tiredness, feeling weak and hair loss could be lack of iron, especially since you mentioned you don't eat a lot of meat.

– Tiredness, dry skin and constipation could be a lack of fluids. Also make sure you eat enough fiber (just for the constipation).

If your GP was worried about appendicitis he might have just done a blood test to check the white blood cell count to see if there's an infection but I don't think he would see your vitamin or iron levels at the same time? But again, no professional so worth asking...

All the best.

Haireverywhere · 30/09/2018 22:33

Vit D, B12 and iron?

Haireverywhere · 30/09/2018 22:34

Sorry posted too soon. Have you read about Lyme disease?

Jellyjumpers · 30/09/2018 22:58

artio0 my diet is ok, but I am looking to eat more veggitables. I tent to drink at least two meters of water.

The constipation is wierd because increasing fiber seems to make things worse. I am not necessarily sure I am constipated at mostly go two or three times a day. Further however, this is what they said if hospital and it does sometimes feel like things yet stuck.

No I don't think they tested vitamins levels but meant I think if things were vastly abnormal eg blood cancer this should have been picked up in hospital I would have thought.

Haireverywhere I will do some reading about lime as watched a utuber who was affected. I do not think I have had a tick bite but I suppose you never know.
