Numbness down front of thigh

TheFurryMenace · 29/09/2018 19:41

I have had nagging back and grion pain for a few days on my right side, then have woken up today with numbness to the skin of my right thigh. Does anyone know what has caused this and what if anything can I do? I'm walking ok.

I get this down my left thigh. It seems to coincide with sciatica for me. I don't have any advice though.

I have this at times, gp says it can be a trapped nerve

tissuesosoft · 29/09/2018 21:13

Is the numbness spreading to the saddle area?

Fozzleyplum · 29/09/2018 21:16

Google meralgia paresthetica., I've had this on and off for years (it's harmless, I think) and I also have occasional sciatica. It's caused by a nerve being compressed. The outside of my right thigh feels permanently as though it's anaesthetised.

Oh thanks for the replies. Any idea what causes it and what might help?

Tissue - sorry, I'm not sure what you mean by the saddle? Do you mean the outer thigh? If so, then yes. It's mostly down the front of the thigh but it does radiate out to the side.

Saddle as in underneath - the bits of your body that would touch a saddle if you're sat on it

If you have any of these symptoms- please go straight to the hospital!

Second that ^^
I had cauda equina

Just had a look at the link, blimey! No thank goodness I don't have any of those symptoms.

If it is meralgia paresthetica, it can be caused by tight clothing or excess weight pressing on the nerve. When I was diagnosed, it was the era of hipster jeans, and any constriction round the hips did make it worse. Having said that, I still have it now and I wear loose clothing and am definitely not overweight (tall and lanky with a BMI of 21), so it seems to be just one of those things.

Ok, thanks for the reply. I am not overweight and dont wear tight clothing either.
