Probable partial colorectal obstruction (way TMI)

Oversharing as usual! Anyway.

Following 2x major bowel surgery in the last 11 months, I am now under investigation for what my colorectal surgeon thinks is likely to be anastomotic stricture or other adhesive (partial) obstruction of the remaining colon, with or without colovesical fistula.

I have an appointment for contrast CT in a month’s time. In the meantime I am hugely bloated & uncomfortable, abdominally tender and crampy (not severe or sharp pain), nauseous but not vomiting, lots of belching. Bowel movements, such as they are lately, have involved painful straining for minimal (but soft) output. No movement now for 48 hrs, other than a small amount of gas, and no urge to go.

Obviously if the pain gets severe I will go straight to A&E - my surgeon left me in no doubt about that.

But in the meantime with partial but not critical symptoms, are there things I can do to self-help? I drink plenty of fluids and sip broth rather than taking in too much solid food (low appetite anyway). I take OTC simethicone remedies, but remain very uncomfortable. Can I get a DIY enema from a pharmacist - and would it be safe? Any other ideas please?

FWIW the underlying pathology was severe diverticular disease, not malignancy.

I would avoid enemas from pharmacy unless prescribed.

A temporary diet based around liquids seems sensible to me - smooth soup (homemade or canned), milkshakes, flavoured soya drinks, juices, almond milk.

Good luck.

Many thanks for your response - yes I am already cornering the market in kefir, gazpacho, bone broth and peppermint tea, but grateful for new fluid ideas.
