Health anxiety

I'm hoping someone can help?

I've got health anxiety. Quite bad health anxiety. In fact, quite severe health anxiety. I'm peri menopausal, just getting over the loss of my beautiful elderly cat and I'm on my own. Recipe for more anxieties!!!

I'm due a pelvic scan this afternoon. I'm going on my own as my close friends are at work. I've had a lot of really heavy bleeding, pain, the works. Previously I've had an ovarian cyst but was discharged from gynae after a few scans as it turned out to be nothing to worry about. I think I also remember the scan lady telling me I had a fibroid? So I've had bloods done which show I'm anaemic. Not desperately but levels were slightly low. GP put me on the mini pill, with a view to maybe the coil depending on scan results. So all good so far. Except I'm on the verge of cancelling the scan. I'm petrified they tell me something bad. I'm sat here feeling sick, I really need someone to tell me to man the hell up!! I've had such an emotional week, plus if my hormones are all I've the place that's not helping......... what if there's something seriously wrong???

Yes it would state that. Trust me - I've had a few Smile

You've got a prompt appointment because you're already "in the system" i.e. you've seen a sonographer and (b) the NHS isn't nearly as inefficient as the media would have us believe.

Shoegal, is your appointment with the gp or a consultant? Your go could have had access to the scan directly or might have had to refer you to the hospital.

He could have arranged the scan And refer you to a consultant at the same time so the appointment could be nothing to do with the scan results although the consultant would have it too.

Even if referred on thec2ww, it doesn't mean in any way that you are likely to have a cancerous tumour, just that you need checking which you already know anyway.

Thinking of you.

Swing it's just an apt at the local hospital at the ultrasound dept. I went last week when they found the cyst and scan lady said I needed a vaginal scan to get a better view?

Update.....

So I've been for my vaginal scan today 😬😬.

Feel a lot more relaxed now. Sonographer was lovely and reassuring. She said cyst was 6.5cm, pelvic scan showed 5cm but she doesn't think it's necessarily grown it's just looking at it from a different angle. She said it was a nice round shape and fluid filled. Said I had a fibroid on the front wall of my uterus but in her words 'nothing at all sinister'. Said my GP would probably refer me to gynae so I'm hoping it will ok work out ok? I feel a lot better tho I was imagining all sorts of horrors!

Thank you for the update Shoegal - I'm glad you are feeling better and relaxed. I have bouts of terrible health anxiety and I understand how you feel. Thank you for the positive news!
