Hi all I was just wondering if anyone else felt like this...

So at the moment I have yet another stomach upset, seemingly caused by trying something new for dinner Tuesday night, some vegetable patty thing. Husband was fine so not food poisoning, but I seem to get stomach upsets all the time. It worries me as during these times I can’t get off the loo and have to dose myself up with Imodium to have any chance of getting on with my day! I work and do the school run and generally just can’t afford to be ill so much.

At the moment I’m also got the start of my daughters cold, sore throat, stuffy head etc, I’ve also got very very bad skin spots that are so painful and look really bad, I’m tired and lethargic on top of these stomach issues. It’s really wearing me down!!

Hubby suggested could be ibs and we’ve been looking at the fodmap diet but it elimates everything i usually eat. I dont have much variety if I’m honest so looks like I won’t be able to enjoy anything in the future which is so annoying!

I’m just so fed up if my condition ruling me and ruling my life, my family, friends and boss all seem fed up of hearing about my numerous stomach upsets (I try not to tell them but when it affects me going places I have to!) I just want to have a normal life...

Sorry for the moan x

When did the stomach aches like this properly begin?. I ask as you state you have another stomach upset.

I would go to the GP re this matter and have your stool tested to see if there is an underlying bacterial infection.

Have you been abroad in the last 3-6 months?. If so that should be mentioned too.

Stop eating high fiber foods and go low residue. White bread, mashed potatoes, rich tea biscuits, bananas. See if that helps.

Have you been tested for coeliac disease? If not, you should ask for that (make sure you are eating gluten products eg bread regularly for the 6weeks running up to the blood test). Your GP should help you elimate other things before you can say if its IBS. LowFODMAP has helped me massively, but I had lots of tests before starting it. Hope you get things sorted Flowers

Stomach aches on and off for years. Went to doctor years ago who diagnosed ibs and prescribed peppermint oil capsules but didn’t seem interested. They didn’t help and I got better so assumed he was wrong. Not been abroad for years. Thank you all for the advice xx

Invasive question but what are your stools like? Sorry... I know it’s a bit much for MN. Are they pale and floaty?

mummytoc · 27/09/2018 17:03

Have you tried buscopan? That helped my ibs a lot a couple of years ago. These days I self manage it by drinking kefir every morning and avoiding any known triggers to me eg brown bread. I have occasional flare ups but I believe it is connected to low level anxiety rather than food. I can't recommend kefir enough. It's disgusting but you get used to it x

floaty means lots of gas in the stool. Could be lots of things, things which are mostly non-worrying. But see your GP and absolutely mention your floaters. You should be getting blood tests and do a stool test as well.
