After tooth extraction

So I had my tooth extracted and the gum got infected and I've been in alot of pain. Since being on antibiotics the pain isn't improving much, but I've noticed alot of the pain is coming from the tooth next to the removal site. The gum at the top seems to have split and I have a very painful area of exposed tooth going up towards my gum. I don't really know what to do about it

Oh, gosh, you poor thing. That sounds miserable. I assume you want to know what you can do tonight, and you'll go to your dentist tomorrow? Can you call 111 as a starting place while you're waiting to see if someone knowledgeable comes on here? I'm assuming you are taking painkillers, and have got the max strength you can have from the pharmacy (e.g. cocodamol or Nurofen + Codeine)

If you take any painkillers with added codeine, be aware that it can cause headaches after a couple of days, and also that the codeine tends to cause constipation. Because, you know, dental pain isn't miserable enough...

From what I've read (and I've read quite a bit around this subject because I had a tooth out yesterday following five days of severe dental pain!) this Wiki page does look fairly in line with most advice regarding clove oil. However, I did find that it was quite burny, so you might want to check with 111 whether it's going to just send you through the roof if it's used in a mouth with a split gum, or see if anyone else comes on here who's a bit more knowledgeable than I am.

Also, if you can, avoid letting any of the clove oil go down your throat (i.e. if you are swallowing saliva or you rinse your mouth, I'm not suggesting that you'd drink it neat!). It's absolutely awful in your throat, as I discovered.

Oops, sorry, forgot the Wiki link.

Are you OK, OP? Bumping in case anyone's online who knows a bit more than I do and can leave you a post with good advice.
