Itchy scalp but no dandruff and no lice

Had this problem for a couple of months. DH has looked at my scalp as my first thought was perhaps I had picked up something nasty. No sign of anything so when we visited my daughter who is a nurse she had a good look. She said it looked like ecsma and to use something like olive oil or coconut oil to massage the scalp before washing hair.
I have done this and at first my head felt better but as soon as my head rested on something it started to feel sore and itchy. Has anyone else had a problem like this who can help. I don’t use any hair colouring products, perms etc. My shampoo is the same one I have used for a about three years and is a mild one containing natural products and has never given me any trouble. I have had a fair amount of stress and worry which I have tried to curb but would so welcome any advice.

Could it be a fungal infection? You can pick those up from inadvertently sharing combs pillows towels etc. Best visit your GP so a sample can be taken, that's better than guesswork and you don't want it to spread

Yes I had an itchy scalp for a long time. A year or so. No dandruff or lice either. The thing that finally sorted it was the tea tree shampoo from Lidl. It wasn’t intentional. I just picked it up while I was in a rush one day as was out of shampoo at home. I’ve used different shampoos since then and always have to go back to this one as it’s the only one that keeps the itch away.

Thank you IfIWasABird. I will go up to Lydl this week and see if I can pick one up. I was in Holland and Barret this afternoon and asked about tea tree oil but was told it would be too caustic and sold me an aloe Vera shampoo and conditioner. I said I had seen tea tree mentioned on the net in relation to scalp problems. I could see a tea tree shampoo on the shelf but she said she wasn’t happy about me using it. However, I am not convinced but will give this aloe Vera a chance until I get up to Lydl
Thank you MistressDee. I will have to go to the doctors if these don’t work. I am reluctant to make an appointment unless I can say what else I have tried as appointments are at a premium at the surgery. Thank you both again.

I used to scratch my scalp til it bled. You really need to go back to zero additive products. Anyways give this a read and prepare for the long haul.
