Sorry TMI, but how normal is this?

Mine are pretty heavy in the first few days of my period (use super-plus extra and have to run to the toilet when I wake up to change), but nothing like that! Make more of a fuss to your GP, I reckon.

ledodgy · 11/06/2007 11:59

No I agree it's not normal and you need to make sure it's addressed. IIRC if you're soaking a sanitary towel in an hour you need medical attention.

NannyL · 11/06/2007 12:01

doesnt sound normal to me

go back to Drs and create a fusss i think

FrannyandZooey · 11/06/2007 12:02

You poor sod

please hassle your doctor, you shouldn't have to put up with this

kreamkrackers · 11/06/2007 12:02

i'd get an emergency appointment, you need seeing to straight away, that is definetly not normal. have you recently had a baby?

My advice? Get thee to the GP and a referral to gynaecology.

indiasmum · 11/06/2007 12:14

had you had any pain with it or beforehand? is it not at all possible you may have been pg and not realised?

kreamkrackers · 11/06/2007 12:16

expatinscotland · 11/06/2007 12:16

It could be a fibroid - i have one and suffer like you - its horrible. Am pg at the moment but was told they shrink at the menopause ......great! only another 15 or so yrs to put up with it then!!

mears · 11/06/2007 12:21

That is heavy bleeding but it is really common.
Go and see your GP. I had bleeding like that and was given Tranexamic Acid which was brilliant for controlling it.
You might need to see a gynaecologist.

expatinscotland · 11/06/2007 12:22

Justbe, there are many effective treatments out there for fibroids if they are compromising your life.

Don't be fobbed off!

Go back there and hassle them or make an appointment to see someone at your local Family Planning Clinic if you're not getting anywhere with your GP.

justbeme · 11/06/2007 12:24

oh ok expat i will after the LO is born- Thanks! Do you mean an operation or medication??

expatinscotland · 11/06/2007 12:27

You could try tranexamic acid, a Mirena coil, Depo and even some other treatments like lasers or a new ultrasound technology - available only in London just now, but some NHS trusts will fund it.

You shouldn't be told just to wait for the menopause if your fibroids are causing you trouble.

justbeme · 11/06/2007 12:45

Thanks v much Expat - and I hope you get it checked out soon Harman!!

Harman

You need to make a fuss - what you have experienced is not normal and you should not have to put up with it. I would ask the GP, insist infact, that you are referred to a gynae as a matter of urgency. The cause of this needs to be determined (fibroids is a possibility here).

DO not be fobbed off - am appalled though not totally surprised that this has been ignored before now. Many GPs to my mind are totally ignorant when it comes to problems of this nature.

AttilaTheMeerkat · 11/06/2007 13:31

The presciption is perhaps for transexamic acid. Not a long term solution by any means.

You ought to be referred regardless of the result of the blood test and internal. Why they haven't done this is beyond me.

Oh well let us know how you get on wont you??
My fibroid was only picked up on a scan - dont like the thought of someone being able to "feel" for fibroids??!!
