I'm scared - any reassurance?

Have had a sharp pain in lower right abdomen for about 6 months and back pain and a period of wanting to go to loo at lot. Had a pelvic ultrasound which showed enlarged "sticky" ovary but gynacologist said nothing to worry about. An abdominal CT scan has showed a 2.3cm "attenuation consistinent with either an ovarian cyst or a uterine fibroid". The consultant described the results as "very reassuring".

I am seeing him next friday but in the meantime, I am terrified that this could be indicative of something like ovarian cancer. Of course I can't resist looking it up on Google and can tick off the list of symptoms and that is scaring me more!

Can anyone reassure me that I am worrying about nothing and over-reacting just to get me through the week till I see the consultant on Friday?

Goosey - my mother had ovarian cancer - the symptons were not the same as yours. I dont know if there are more symptoms than the ones I have learned about...

Also, if it was ovarian cancer, I am pretty sure that your consultant would not have booked you in for next friday, he would have you in there asap, as it is absolutely treatable with early diagnosis, and I think, that in order to diagnose ovarian cancer early, they would rule this out before looking at other causes, if that makes sense.

Good luck, and I will keep positive thoughts going for you...

Thanks v much Pavlov - nothing he has said indicates that he believes that there is a problem. I keep telling myself that he wouldn't have said "very reassuring" if there was any question of it being something bad. Then there is a whispering in my head that I might not have told them all of the symptoms properly or they might have missed something.

So scared!

Goosey - it is very scary when you dont know what is wrong isnt it? Esp when you have to wait so long for your next appt

It was suggested to my mother before tests confirmed it that they suspected ovarian cancer, and felt quite unwell herself, she knew before they told her, and once it was confirmed they were swift with dealing with it. So I think you have reasons to feel positive that it is not ovarian cancer

Thanks again, you have made me feela bit better!

oh - and what you said about possibly not telling them everything correctly - my mother only told them half of it, she minimised everything! They prompted her with questions to lead them to the answers they were looking for.

Waswondering - did the cyst actually cause pain?

To all of you who offered reassurance, thanks again it really helped.

Saw second consultantant and had ultrasound yesterday and it appears that there is absolutely nothing to worry about - am fine (except now for hangover from 2 bottles of fizz last night).

Thanks again!

goosey, thats fantastic news, i hate google so much, well actually its a very useful tool but of course the first thing i did when i had gall stones was google it, and self diagnosed myself with pancreatic cancer, phoned DP in hysterics who phoned my doctor who phoned me at home and a)told me i should have known better to look stuff on the internet and b)reassured me by betting his pension it was gall stones - he was right, of course!! Shame he had to retire through ill health before i could go in with my jar of stones and offer to pay up on my bet - such a lovely man, to take his time out of his day to reassure a neurotic patient - not so common i would imagine.
