Disagreeing with the GP - being your own advocate

Just hoping this helps someone else.
I have a habit of taking what I'm told by the GP as gospel, even if I sometimes am not sure they're on the right track. It's an authority thing. I usually feel that they MUST know better.
Well, to cut a pretty long story short, I've had some health issues that I felt in the back of my mind were being minimised by GP and the treatment seemed to be making me worse. Finally plucked up the courage to ask for another GP and they've delved a little deeper into history, taken me off everything that was making me worse and seem to be doing all they can to get to the bottom of this, as they seem to agree with the seriousness of symptoms. I'm getting somewhat closer to a diagnosis, feel much less anxious and hopeful for recovery.
Just wanted to say to anyone who really feels that the GP is getting it wrong, it's not that much of a hassle to ask for another opinion and it doesn't mean your GP is 'bad'. No one gets it right all the time and GPS are only human. If I've learnt anything from this, it's to be your own advocate - it is your health after all
