Worth the money?
Do they work?
Do they rub in or are they as thick as shit?

I like to reapply for reassurance.

JackieNo · 09/06/2007 22:22

We're using this one - works well for us - DD used it all last summer at school, and didn't burn at all. It's not very heavy (although I find it too heavy on my face, I'd prefer something matte there). Would definitely recommend.

SlightlyMadStilton · 09/06/2007 22:22

But I know that I don't reapply as often as I should. Thinking that would be better off to do it first thing in the morning and then forget about it. Especially when out and about on holiday...

OP posts:
SlightlyMadStilton · 09/06/2007 22:23

Thats the one I am looking at JackieNo - its half price in tesco at the mo.

I like the Piz Buin one. Seems to work on my girls.
We have just got back from Portugal using the Soltan Once which is like glue to apply. The girls did not burn but they did tan a bit. I reapplied after lunch as they were in the pool for a lot of the time which reduces the effectiveness.

expatinscotland · 09/06/2007 22:24

They rub in, but it takes some doing!

WELL worth it, though.

DD1 is the colour of a milk bottle, and UltraSun really lasts.

We do reapply if she's out all day.

I wish it came in stick form, though.

We have one from teh US that's in stick form and it's dead easy to apply - use it on DD2 because she's not out in the sun much.

JackieNo · 09/06/2007 22:25

And it's very useful to put on DD before school and know that she'll still be OK at lunch break.
Half price you say. Actually I bought a huge tube end of last year, which never got opened, so we're probably ok for a while.

brimfull · 09/06/2007 22:26

I used a piz buin one when I went to dubai. It was specifically for skins that don't tan ,even though I do eventually tan I thought I would be extra careful. It was fantastic ,I didn't burn at all despite spending hrs in 35c sun and actually tanned on my legs for the first time in my life.Smells fab too.Definately worth the £20.

SlightlyMadStilton · 09/06/2007 22:26

All sun-tans are half price in tesco for a couple of weeks - but that was the only 8hr one that I noticed.

It is quite a small tube though about £5-6 at the discount price.

OP posts:
brimfull · 09/06/2007 22:27

jackie-that's the one I used it's fantastic stuff

SlightlyMadStilton · 09/06/2007 22:28

And hte benefits of putting it on before school is another selling point.

Especially as DTDs have been told they are not allowed to where their sunhats - but thats another thread for another day

OP posts:
cherrycake · 09/06/2007 22:29

Out of interest, how much is it in Tesco at the moment?
And how long do suncreams last? Do they really have a use-by date??
x

SlightlyMadStilton · 09/06/2007 22:30

It was deffo less than £10. About £5-7ish I think.

It was a comparatively small tube. About 150ml at a broad guess.

OP posts:
JackieNo · 09/06/2007 22:32

You have to be a bit careful looking at these sorts of sun creams - I have seen one that said something like '10 hour from one application' and when you read the blurb on the back, it was talking about 10 hours of moisturising, not sun protection - very misleading.

SlightlyMadStilton · 09/06/2007 22:32

appears to be BOGOF in Boots too

OP posts:
SlightlyMadStilton · 09/06/2007 22:33

I had seen that on something last year. This one deffinately says 10 hours sun protection.

OP posts:
tortoise · 09/06/2007 22:34

I bought Johnsons kids long lasting sun lotion today. Rubs in well and lasts upto 6 hours. BOGOFF in boots. Cheaper than piz bruin one.

SlightlyMadStilton · 09/06/2007 22:41

It might have been johnsons which I thought was misleading last year. Is it 6hrs sun protection or 6 hours moisturising?

OP posts:
tortoise · 09/06/2007 22:43

On the back it says:
Johnson's Long lasting sun protection contains the latest generation of sun stable filters that remian active for 8 hours (not 6 like i said before!), helping to prevent sunburn and long term skin damage.

SlightlyMadStilton · 09/06/2007 22:46

Fair enough....

I agree with JackieNo - there was one that was misleading. I may check out boots instead, as they will have a wider choice and BOGOF is just as good as half price.

OP posts:
anniebear · 10/06/2007 18:18

dont buy the Boots one, is it called soltan? I got the 6 hr one from there and it is thick and really sticky, is so hard to rub in

I tried it on myself, it was awful

I had the piz buin the last 2 years (but wasn't half price when I looked a few weks ago ) and it was really nice, rubbed in well

onlygirlinthehouse · 10/06/2007 18:25

used one last year that was a mousse but cant think of bloody name now! However it was brilliant, only thing I would say is be really thorough when applying, I missed a patch on ds1 and he burned.

suedonim · 10/06/2007 18:41

We use Bergaderm here in Nigeria. It's very easy to apply and doesn't have that sickly pong that seems to accompany a lot of sun lotions. It's not that easy to get on the High St but Sainsbury's usually have it and sometimes Tesco's.

SlightlyMadStilton · 10/06/2007 21:11

Don't worry I shall be avoiding Soltan (after last years Which report). I think I will stick to teh Piz Buin given the positive response here. Will also see if I can get some Johnsons or something for DD3 as she is only 13m. Thanks for all your comments.

OP posts:
jellycat · 10/06/2007 21:17

We are all pale skinned and use Ultrasun . None of us has burned yet (we haven't been abroad though). I don't find it too sticky (no worse than most suncreams). I use the Protection 28 for the dses and Protection 20 for us (that one is a liquid which I prefer).
