17 year old DS wants a better smile - any dentists on here?

Hi, I’m asking this on behalf of my DS as he has become obsessed with his teeth/smile.

He has overbite and that’s why he has braces but he says he doesn’t think it will work and he wants his front tooth straightened out.

The picture below with the the really white teeth shows the kind of smile he would like, he wants his to look exactly like that.

I think he is being a bit OTT but he has obviously done his research - he says he wants jaw surgery. Would that be able to make his smile like the picture attached? He said he hates how narrow his smile is and can’t understand why his teeth don’t expand to the sides like the one below.

He also wants to know what colour his teeth are. I’ve told him that no they’re not sparkling white but they’re not yellow either.

Again I think he is being silly, I see nothing wrong with his teeth but he wanted me to post this.

Thanks

Has he also researched the cost of surgery to alter the shape of his jaw, and the things that could go wrong? Sounds like he could do with some counselling to help him accept his appearance - which looks perfectly fine as far as the photos go.

His smile could do with tweaking.
His front top incisors could be pulled down and made into a smile line. As it is they are shorter than the outer incisors and canines, so his smile has an unhappy look.

His palate looks fine to me and you can see the premolars and molars.

I think he could do with teeth polishing and maybe whitening, and he could get that when the appliance comes off, but surgery is not necessary.
You can say I told him!

He needs counseling if his body/ dental dysmorphia continues. It’s easy to become ubsessed with appearance if you have too much time on your hands. Has he got a Saturday job or any interest on sports?

He looks fine, I’d just ask the orthodontist to pull down his top incisors so his teeth make a smile 😀 rather than the unhappy line 😩 they describe now.

Hi

I’m completely clueless when it comes to this stuff but what exactly do you mean by “pull down the top incisors” ? Does that mean straighten the top front teeth?

And yes he really does need something to keep his mind off it, e.g a hobby. He talks about his teeth non stop
