Itchy scalp

It's been there for about a year.
Sometimes really bad sometimes mild, but felt daily.
It can be so bad sometimes that i scratch enough to cause bleeding.
There are often lumps, up to as big as a baked bean. The bigger the lumps, the itchier it feels.
Lumps can come and go within hours, but can stay for days.
Usually worst behind my ears up to the crown of my head mainly on the left side.
Not flakey.
Tried diff shampoos, no diff. (Some worse)
Tried not using shampoo, this made it worse.
I don't use hair products.
I've tried having hair tied up or down - no diff.

I saw a nurse & dr a couple of months ago.
Confirmed not fungal by trying an anti-fungal shampoo with no benefit, no infestation or bits etc. She suggested I take antihistamines. They've had no impact.

Anyone have any ideas/tips/suggestions?

Have you tried anti dandruff shampoo? Maybe see a dermatologist with more experience in that particularly rather than a GP.

I get something like this from time to time. I thought it might be a form of scalp psoriasis but the shampoos and lotions for that did nothing to help. My hairdresser recommended the Aveda Pramasana Scalp cleanser. It cleared it completely after two uses and I now just use it if any signs of returning. If it is the same as I had I think it might be a form of seborrhoric (spelling?) dandruff which builds up over time.

I have this and the only two things that have worked are
Philip Kingsley flaky itchy shampoo
and Eucerin calming urea shampoo (made from pigs urine apparantly!)

There is also a toner to go with both of these which can be applied directly to the scalp.

Hey all,
Thanks for the replies.
I've tried anti-dandruff and itchy scalp shampoos. None have solved the issue.
There is no dandruff or flaking, just itchiness and lumps. I think this is what led the dr to thinking it was a histamine reaction.

I might try and source the 2 suggested products to try tho and push the dr again for a dermo cons referral.
