At what age did you start to get wrinkles?

I'm 28 and no wrinkles yet.
I don't smoke or sunbathe but my skin is sensitive and full of freckles
I had acne as a teenager and used dianette- presuming I must have a combination skin type.

Recently I've noticed a lot of my friends of the same age have a substantial amount of wrinkles and I'm trying to figure out maybe the reasons why some get them earlier than others. Could genetics play a role also? My mother's skin is great and she is 52.

I never wash my face with soaps, just cleanse twice daily with micellar water and I don't moisturise- should I be?

How old were you when you started noticing wrinkles and do you think in your case there is an obvious reason for them?

Staying out of the sun, using sunscreen help but genetics is a big factor.

BettyCrook · 15/09/2018 13:57

do you drink or smoke? do you wear sunscreen? do you sleep on your back? have you gained and lost lots of weight?

I started wrinkling at 30.

When you say you have no wrinkles..do you look 16?when you smile or frown you have no tiny micro lines? could you post a pic?

BettyCrook · 15/09/2018 13:58

do you have children? because i aged as soon as i had my first seemingly overnight. lack of sleep and nutrients from breastfeeding made me age so much.

3luckystars · 15/09/2018 14:02

I am getting some this year around my eyes. I’m 40.

Branleuse · 15/09/2018 14:02

im 42 and have a few wrinkles since about the last 5 years. Not massively though. Non smoker, and rubbish skincare. Rarely put sunscreen although i do moisturise. Im told I look young, but I suspect people say that to everyone as a generic compliment

safetyfreak · 15/09/2018 14:04

27, I am 29 now and have wrinkles around eyes.

I don't smoke and never been one for sun, very pale skin. Genetics play huge factor.

I have thought about getting Botox in a few years. We can't all be genetically blessed :(

MadamePeony · 15/09/2018 14:13

@BettyCrook Non smoker- used to drink a glass of wine most nights before I became pregnant (6 months now) .
Sleep on my side. Never put suncream on my face.
I don't get frown lines. The most I maybe get is a tiny line near my eyes with a big smile but I've had those for as long as I can remember.
The only photo I can find on my phone is one of me and the dog. He's definitely not got wrinkles.

Should I start using a moisturiser?? I feel like they are so expensive and a bit mind boggling!

you look amazing and i can imagine if you were wearing another top (stripes are very mumsnet haha) you'd look 17 or 18.
id say keep doing what you're doing! genes in your favour :)
FWIW i moisturise and use spf and i look 5 years to 10 older......i dont sleep well though.

MadamePeony · 15/09/2018 14:17

@safetyfreak I don't sunbathe much either- can't stand feeling like I'm being baked! This summer was a nightmare for me.

Ahh bless you look lovely. Children aged me. I was 30. I noticed it dramatically after each child.. Oh well.

MadamePeony · 15/09/2018 14:27

@Veryberrycherry Well our fist is due at Christmas so now you've said that I bet lot's will appear as soon as my body is depleted of pregnancy oestrogen! 😂

Veryberrycherry · 15/09/2018 14:30

My 2nd was due at Christmas. Its a lovely time to have a baby. Maybe treat yourself to a moisturiser. Something a bit luxurious/expensive before baby arrives.

My OH bought me some lovely skin care products for me when i was heavily pg at Christmas.

Metalhead · 15/09/2018 14:41

I also aged a lot after having children, especially my second. Looking back at photos from when DD1 was a baby I look so fresh faced...

Delatron · 15/09/2018 16:19

Children age you! And you can look young for your age right up to early forties but that is when time catches up and most people I know who are in their 40s look their age, work or no work.

You need to wear sunscreen every day or you will get wrinkles, even with good genes. It’s the number one cause of ageing.

StacksOfBoxes · 15/09/2018 16:22

I was 43 before I got any at all. I'm 45 now and am really quite wrinkly. I look fully my age.

A message for any young smokers out there. ... it will catch up you Sad

MrsNacho · 15/09/2018 16:24

My sister is 28 and very wrinkly, I am 32 and have just noticed in the last couple of weeks a few little lines. I have now invested in a day cream and a night cream with retinol.

At what age did you start to get wrinkles?
MrsNacho · 15/09/2018 16:25

Oh I didn't find children particularly aging either, my youngest is 6.

Roomba · 15/09/2018 16:33

I'm 42 next week. I have a line between my eyes from frowning/concentrating and am starting to get a couple of fine lines around my eyes and on my forehead. But they're very fine atm. I think I'm genetically blessed as my mother had very few wrinkles until her mid to late 40s. My sister is five years younger and is much wrinklier, but she smokes a lot.

Eppia · 15/09/2018 16:40

I looked like you when I turned 28; DC was born 4 months later. Looked a bit tired for the first few months, but tbh still looked great - no wrinkles and fresh looking skin. Continued to look young for several years. Felt pretty smug, possibly like you Wink (You look fab, by the way).

Then - boom! - rather deep wrinkles at side of mouth started forming around 34. I don’t smoke so there’s no real reason for them. Serves me right for being secretly smug. I’m a couple of years on from that now, and I now also have some fine wrinkles developing around my eyes but they’re not there constantly yet. Only if I’ve been frowning or squinting for a bit. Mouth lines seem to get deeper each year! I do still get told I look younger than my age, but I don’t think I really do anymore.

I did start toying with the idea of various lotions and potions and treatments but frankly, who am I tying to kid?

I’m trying to accept the fact I am no longer properly young, and am looking older from one month to the next and that’s okay.

You have a beautiful face that won’t stop being beautiful with wrinkles, so when it happens, roll with it Smile

Peachypips · 15/09/2018 16:54

38 ish.

Delatron · 15/09/2018 17:44

Yes, I guess if you have children in your 20s then it doesn’t have the same impact.

To be honest I think I just looked tired post kids but I looked younger than my age until late 30s.

General consensus is early to mid 40s quite a lot of ageing happens. So even if you’ve spent your entire adult life looking a good ten years younger, it will catch up with you then.

underneaththeash · 15/09/2018 23:06

I was awful in my 20'd drank too much and smoked, yet no wrinkles at all.
They started around 38 (as did the grey hair).

Miiaaoow · 16/09/2018 13:23

I'm 29 and have no lines or wrinkles but my cheeks have dropped and I have huge eye bags. A combination of ill health/poor sleep and weak bone structure.

Also blessed with thread veins. And lots of white hair! Hooray.

I do have some rather wrinkly similar aged (and younger) friends. Usually those who drink a lot and have a poor diet. Or those with multiple children.

My male friends seem to be more wrinkly, but of course no-one judges them for it.
