Wearing wellies all summer ... any health risk? How to fix?

DS2 seems to only want to wear wellies. Twice now, I have bought him sandals, and he refuses to wear them (he will wear them in the shop), on the grounds that they hurt.

(First pair were nike, second were clarks.)

Sometimes he wears socks, sometimes not. His feet are always wet and horrific-smelling as a result.

He is two, and I'd rather not have a fight about this. Is he damaging his feet doing this? The skin isn't damaged (yet).

I think I will try to get him some crocs, as they are ventilated and a similar shape to wellies, so maybe will be acceptable?

at builder and crocs plot

FrannyandZooey · 09/06/2007 16:41

"Want to know what builders wear in the summer? These [shows crocs]"

oooh my pelvic floor

florenceuk · 09/06/2007 16:41

I reckon for a two year old, doodles with socks is about right. No complaining about stones, no rubbing, and they can take them off themselves. And no laces to fiddle with.

NotQuiteCockney · 09/06/2007 16:42

Actually, we're having a plumber in at the moment, might manage it.

He was madly in love with our old site foreman when we had work done, but I think he's moved on.

Oh, deffo no laces in the plan.

I have had a look online, but can't find many crocs (or crocalikes) in his size. Will dig more.

Oh, I think he's gone out with DH wearing his brother's fake crocs. Am entirely at him.

Don't laugh at my plan I had to come up with it while totally sober
Besides. It might work

NotQuiteCockney · 09/06/2007 16:58

I think it may be the dialog that is throwing Frances' pelvic floor.

It is almost porny in its obviousness.

Not that obvious is a bad thing when dealing with two-year-olds ...

Well if you do try it out, PLEASE post to let us know the outcome, dialogue and all

sparklesandwine · 09/06/2007 17:08

no offense meant here but you really should be able to stand up to a 2 yr old!!

sorry!

but if you do think the wellies could be damaging his feet/skin then maybe you could just hide them away and tell him that because they were a bit old and smelly that 'Bob' wanted them back to fix them over the summer but leave a new pair of shoes/sandals in a box wrapped as a present as if left from 'Bob' for him to wear instead of the wellies. he might fall for that i know plenty that have

FrannyandZooey · 09/06/2007 17:36

LOLOL at NQC not being able to stand up to her 2 year old

you freaking wimpo parents, just get him in an armlock and WELD him into them

erm well I think it was more the perceived hilarity of getting a builder to say he wore crocs in the summer

sparklesandwine · 09/06/2007 17:40

lol not quite what i meant F&Z

Haven't read whole thread BUT second hand leather sandals are good (because they have been broken in already). If you put "sandalen" into ebay, tick the box for items within the EU, also put in his size European style, you should get lots of nice Elefanten and other good ones quite cheap from Germany/Austria. Well worth doing. Do make sure they take paypal though as bank transfers are shockingly expensive and sending cash is worrying.
Both my ds's had welly phases - best avoided if poss!

NotQuiteCockney · 09/06/2007 18:11

I am reasonably happy just making my kids do things, when the things are my business. But surely what footwear DS2 wears is (really) up to him?

I might give up and hide the wellies, problem is, he has three pairs on the go (all different sizes), and I'm sure he'd wear DS1's wellies if needs be.

Cod, did your DS2 insist on wearing a bike helmet always? Or refuse? DS2 often wants to refuse the bike helmet, but I do put my foot down about that one.

lol NQC thats a lot of wellies! i'm sure you'll sort it out even if its just getting getting him to wear socks with them

what about foot spray to combat the smelly feet?

NotQuiteCockney · 10/06/2007 11:48

I don't think I can stand the idea of chemicals on him ... at any rate, he's gone out in the pair of Clark's sandals that I bought last weekend.

OP posts:
NotQuiteCockney · 10/06/2007 13:51

Yes, he's in the Clarks, and very happy. These aren't the shoes I bought yesterday, but the pair I bought before. Toddlers, eh?
