Naproxcin

Jellyjumpers · 12/09/2018 23:35

I have been taking naproxcin for stomach and leg pain which I think is endometriosis related. I have been having watery diarrhea and think this may be a side affect of the tablets. I know antiinflamitories can be harsh on the stomach and allways take after food.

Do you think it would be harmful to continue to take the painkillers. I need some sort of relief before my gp appointment on Tuesday but do not want to harm myself.

Are you also taking omeprozole or similar? Naproxen are well known for stomach problems and it's advised to take something to help combat the effects.

I would stop taking them.

Rocknroller1234 · 12/09/2018 23:40

according to the NHS website that is a serious side effect and you should speak to your doctor ASAP. Personally I would take that with a pinch of salt if there is no blood or indigestion. Can you give your GP a call?

psicat · 12/09/2018 23:49

Agree with hobblesma - I had terrible stomach pains with naproxcin, went back to docs as was unable to take and saw a different doc who said they must be taken with something like omeprozole as very harsh on stomach. Was prescribed that and had no more problems. Have a chat with your docs! I didn't even need an appointment, spoke to her over the phone and she put up the prescription

Jellyjumpers · 13/09/2018 00:22

Thanks no I was not prescribed omeprozole. I specifically asked about this as having had tests when my endometriosis was believed to be ibs I was asked a lot of questions about any pain killer useage. I will try calling my gp in the morning.

Prescribed for wrist problems , I had a similar reaction and was then prescribed omeprazole to take. Problem solved.

Jellyjumpers · 13/09/2018 00:31

I am really struggling to cope with the pain even with the medication. I do have some econac sups and wonder if these will be easier on my stomach.

I am feeling frustrated as went to the gp last week and then was admitted to hospital for three nights. I have had clear bloods an abdominal xray and an internal ultrasound. They did not find anything but I am still in pain and unsure how to manage. I do not know if I would he wasting resources to call the out of hours, as there is probably nothing to he done.

Thanks its good to know the omeprozole helps.

I am currently feeling really apprehensive. I called the out of hours to ask if there was any fictional additional painkillers I could use as could not sleep with without a naproxcin. The gp advised that I go to a&e in the morning. ☹️

I am really worried about having more time off work and also then finding something or not finding anything. I know health has to come first but I had some important work to do this morning. As I do not feel that bad accept for pain which I have had for a few weeks and have no blood in the diarrhea I am not sure what the concern is. Does anyone know what they may be wanting to rule out?.

Just want to say you can take painkillers with Naproxen - I take it with co-codamol (prescribed). So I can't see why you can't take it with paracetamol as long as you are not exceeding dosage.

Something is causing the pain - and you really do need to get to the bottom of it as its not ideal you would be on naproxen and or other painkillers long term. Def go back to your GP and see what they day. If you suspect endo push for a gynae referral.

Hope you are feeling a little better today.

Jellyjumpers · 13/09/2018 23:09

Thanks
The diarrhea in the night was quite alarming, so I contacted ooh who advised going to a&e.

After all the usual waits etc. I was prescribed omeprazole and cocodamol. So thanks all for suggesting this. The hospital today seemed to think it was endo related and I will he pushing to he seen again. At the moment the biggest problem with pain is at night where I tend to get disturbed sleep. My plan is to leave the stronger painkillers for night.

In the hospital today they thought endo was likely affecting a nerve. I have previously had amitriptoline for suspected ibs and it was really good for enabling me to sleep. I plan to ask the dr if something like this would he useful now. I would also like to have stronger codeine separately from paracetamol. At night I will do anything to get some sleep, but in the day would prefer to be able to first try paracetamol and then add stronger painkillers if needed.

Those of you with chronic pain do you think this plan would he worth trying? I also wondered how to ask the gp about it. I do not want to be viewed as a drug seeker, but also want to express that I feel if we hit the night hard and I am able to sleep I will he much more able to manage the day. At the moment when sleep has been intrupted I feel tired and overwhelmed and tearful and this means I do not have the reserves to psychologically cope with pain that usually I could work round..

I am so tired! I just wish I could sleep but keep either being woken by pain or not able to get comfortable.

Can I jump on here too please?
I’ve been prescribed Naproxen, co-codamal and Omeprozole today for a frozen shoulder. I’m in total agony and can’t lift my arm above waist height. Took the co-codamal an hour ago and it’s not even taken the edge off.
Doctor has said he’s putting in an urgent request for physio due to the severity.
Basically feeling sorry for myself at the moment as I’m struggling with everything

Accountant222 · 14/09/2018 18:56

Does that to me too, ask for meloxipine it's much better

Jellyjumpers · 15/09/2018 05:34

Hi mono I hope the appointment comes through quickly. Does heat or cold help your pain? Have you ever tried a tens machine? Also be mindful that codeine can cause constipation. Its worth adding fiber, lots of fluids and maybe some form of laxative if you feel affected.

I am up again with the pain.

Yellowsunredroses · 15/09/2018 06:01

Have they ruled out appendicitis?

Jellyjumpers · 16/09/2018 06:25

Yes they ruled out appendicitis as the pain is on the left and bloods and temperature were fine. I would have hoped the endometriosis would have been kept at bay by the foil. However, they seem to think either endometriosis or adhetions are affecting the bowel and nerves to my left leg. I was a bit more active walking around yesterday and also took naproxcin regularly. The pain seemed to be better, but I still have not cracked the evening thing. Hopefully the gp will have some ideas on Tuesday to mean I can start sleeping better again. I hate the way pain stops sleep and then it becomes more difficult to sleep again.

I find that taking 3 ibuprofen and 2 paracetamol together, the normal strength ones! has a better effect than naproxen and as long as you eat with them, won't upset your stomach as much.

If you need the naproxen, trying taking them with a fucktonne of carbs. Seems to settle things a bit.

FaithInfinity · 17/09/2018 21:06

I had similar pain with what turned out to be endo. I can’t take anti-inflammatory drugs and co-codamol wasn’t even on its own. My GP suggested a nerve pain drug (pregablin) which really helped with the pain. Hope you get sorted soon.

Jellyjumpers · 18/09/2018 05:42

Thanks all
Hoping the GP today will have some ideas.

I have just used an econac suppository and the relief is incredible! 😀 wish I had taken it sooner as while I am now much better from a pain perspective I am tired from being up for hours.

I hope to speak to my manager about maybe working from home a bit more until things are resolved. All I want to do is sleep!

OP posts:
Jellyjumpers · 18/09/2018 05:44

Its interesting that others have had similar symptoms with endometriosis.

What is the maximum dose of ibuprofen I did not realize it is ok to take 3 at once.

OP posts:
LittleMissedTheSunshine · 18/09/2018 08:01

I found I had to go back and ask for the Omepramozole as they didn't give it out with the Naproxen... bloody NHS cost cutting surely a stomach ulcer would cost more in the long run!

didyouseetheflaresinthesky · 18/09/2018 08:30

Maximum single dose is 800mg which is 4 of the normal tablets. I cant emphasize enough how important it is to eat with that size dose though and add 2 hours per tablet to the time between doses. So 3 tablets is every 6 hours instead of the usual 4 and 4 tablets would be 8 hours. Try the 3 tablets first. It's always been enough for me, coupled with the paracetamol. Never ever double up paracetamol though.

didyouseetheflaresinthesky · 18/09/2018 09:22

And of course wait at least 8 hours after naproxen before taking them.

Jellyjumpers · 18/09/2018 13:01

Thanks will try the ibuprofen but to be honest an finding the econac and omeprozole combination to be berry good.

Feeling confused after my call with a gp he died does not think it can be endometriosis as I have the coil. He suggested a neurological problem and will do tests when I can go and see him. The

I am not sure what to think the first time I was in hospital they thought a uti and constipation. However, nothing cultured in the lab and I think the constipation was caused by codeine as nothing showed on an xray and I had been before I went in. The next time they thought endometriosis on a nerve but the gp said this would not cause the symptoms.
