Blood in urine -Cystoscopy

I have a long running saga of issues with my bladder and the last time I had a Cystoscopy I was under a GA so don't remember it.

I've had a lovely break from bladder problems but a routine urine test earlier this year had blood in it so Dr tested again last month and again blood but no UTI.
She referred me back to a Urologist who I saw yesterday who says it might be a small tumour or something to do with my kidneys.
I have to have a transvaginal scan of bladder and kidneys etc and also a Cystoscopy. I asked if I would be sedated for that and they said no.
This Urology practice is at what seems to be a large GPs surgery,

Will it hurt and what can I expect?

No it doesn't hurt - I think they offer a local anaesthetic if you want it but I didn't need it. It's quick and painless. I drove home straight afterwards.

Thank you for the reply Petit that was also something else I was wondering. I didn't know if DH needed to come with me. I think I'd rather drive myself.

Cystoscopy is very quick & painless. I drove myself & was back home in no time at all. Nothing to worry about.

I had the same as you (still have, it's just normal for me apparently). Had a cystoscopy and worked myself up into a right lather about it. However it was fine. Slightly uncomfortable when the camera is inserted but once it's in it's fine and actually quite interesting to see your bladder in full view on the big screen 😂.

It's very unlikely to be anything like a tumour. Please don't worry. If it's microscopic blood it's quite common the consultant told me.

You will be able to easily drive yourself there and back by the way.

I had a cystoscopy - didn't hurt at all and I'm a real wimp. Like you, I had a couple of urine tests that found blood in my urine but the cystoscopy and kidney scan didn't find a cause.

OP - I could have written your post as I'm currently experiencing exactly the same problems - 'invisible' blood in urine, ongoing symptoms but no infection for over a year now.
Had recurrent utis since a teen and cystoscopy at 20 (25 years ago) under GA.

On waiting list for urology now as had an ultrasound which all looked fine. My GP said it could be interstitial cystitis but I'll have to have another cystoscopy to rule out anything else.
Feeling really down about it all as it feels like utis have dominated the majority of my life, caused untold stress, pain and anguish and have ruined nearly every holiday I've ever been on....and now this!

I hope everything goes well for you and it all clears up soon Thanks

I had cystoscopy years ago, no anesthetic. I would say slightly uncomfortable at point of insertion, but perfectly manageable.

Totally worth it for me in terms of ruling out potential issues (I also have issues with minimal blood in urine).
