Daith piercing for migraine hampshire

I suffer from chronic migraine, which I've inherited, currently controlled with daily propranalol. I'm wanting to reduce my propranalol due to side effects but with a 6 and 3 year old, plus running my business I can't afford to be struck down with days of pain and vomiting while I experiment with medication doses. I'm thinking of a daith piercing which loads of people say helps with migraine, but need a piercer who knows what they are doing. I'm in Basingstoke, Hampshire but happy to travel for someone good. Has anyone experienced daith piercing for migraine and can you recommend a studio in Hampshire or Berkshire??? Thanks everyone. This is my first time on mumsnet.

It’s really trendy but there’s no proper medical evidence for a dairy piercing actually helping migraines.

Chronic migraine is horrible. You have my sympathies. When did you last have a medication review?

Would you be willing to travel to Reading? I’ve had a couple of piercings done at Urban Piercings in Reading, and it was very clean and professional, I would definitely recommend them. I’ve not got a daith piercing but I know they do them, a friend of mine had hers done there.

Thanks for your message, I had my last med review last week. I've had migraines since age 5 and have, over the years tried everything and what feels like every combination and drug regimen! I know there isn't any clinical study evidence for daith piercing but just thought I may as well try as I'm desperate! I'm thinking that even if it doesn't help anything is worth a try.

Urban piercings are fantastic, but again, I've heard there isn't any evidence for a piercing to reduce migraine.

If you are willing to try acupuncture, there is the college of Chinese medicine in Reading. I've had a course of acupuncture there for my chronic headaches and it has greatly reduced them. I've only had two migraines and no headaches in the past 6 months! You can be seen by a final year student (always with a supervisor overseeing them) which is cheaper too- i think £20 per treatment.

Thanks for the Reading recommendation, I'll check them out.

I had a course if acupuncture treatments in the Chinese medicine college in reading years ago and it did seem to really help some of my attacks, so Im glad it helped you too. I can only afford the student treatments and found due to the supervision they took quite a long appointment time. Now with the kids etc I don't know how I'd manage to travel to reading regularly for long treatments. I might re-look into accupunture again though. Thanks x

My DD had one done about 3 years ago she's had constant migraine since being about 7 on and off. Hers is a silver heart that fits nicely quite pretty and guess what NO migraines! If you can go ahead it's worth giving it a go?

Thanks for your comments everyone, I've had a few attacks threatening in the last couple of days and so I have tried massaging the daith point in the ear. It might just be the placebo effect at the moment as I'm so desperate for something to work but it does seem to have reduced the intensity down a bit so I'm going to go for it and have made an appointment at Urban piercings in Reading. I will let you all know how it goes!!
