*WARNING GROSS PHOTOS

I had a tooth out 3 days ago. It was quite a traumatic extraction so I'm still feeling a bit battered. The hole is now covered in yellow stuff, I did remove some with a cotton but and it was a bit stinky. I'm worried about infection. I did get a grain of rice stuck in there on day 2! I tried to gently rinse it out. I've just used Corsydol mouthwash to see if that helps. I'm going to post a couple of pictures below to see what you think?

First pic is with stinky stuff, the next 2 are after I 'wiped' some off and gently rinsed with mouthwash

This is how it looks this morning, should I be removing the yellow stuff, or is it supposed to be there? Not sure what that blob is, don't know whether to remove it, any advice?

Leave it alone, no wiping.
It looks like it's granulating/ healing ok.
Do Hot salty mouth rinses after eating for 1week.

You have a dry socket (basically an infection). It's nothing to worry about but it probably wont go away by itself. Go back to your dentist who will give you a course of antibiotics and may gently clean it out for you. It's not uncommon, just one of those things unfortunately.
If you're a smoker then try not to until it's healed as that will make it worse x

Yesterday it felt very swollen (day 5) and today is the first time I can honestly say I'm feeling some improvement. I don't think it's dry socket, I've read about it and I'm not in pain like that.

@headbangez
It doesn't look like a dry socket in those photos, as the bone isn't visible.
Also, a dry socket is not an infection as a pp states. You can have an infected and dry socket.
Am a dentist btw & am glad you feel better.

It's been a week now, things are still swollen, is this normal?

Contact your dental practice as soon as it opens in the morning, most practices have some protected emergency slots.
After a week, most extraction sockets are on the mend. So definitely get it checked out.

headbangez · 12/09/2018 22:41

I saw the dentist today, she said it wasn't infected. It's just swollen because of the trauma caused by extraction. It will take a while to recover.

Day 11 now, I inspected the area today and it was covered over white, I touched it and it unplugged itself onto my nail! It was a thick layer (5mm deep) of soft white yellow creamy stuff, was it supposed to be there or have I caused a problem removing it? I still have pain at sometime during the day, it feels tender because it's all still a bit swollen. I see a red blob now. I'd be happy to hear some professional opinions.

I am not a dentist, but I think the white stuff is granulation tissue which means the socket is healing. (I had a lower molar extracted last year and mine went through that - that’s what my dentist said when I went back for the review appointment the following week.) I wonder if poking it out means you’re back to the beginning of the healing process? I would ring in to your dentist in the morning.

headbangez · 25/09/2018 22:35

3 week post extraction now. The swelling has finally subsided. It throbs now and again. I'm not sure if it's healing properly or not? I'm a bit concerned about the soft red tissue.

Omg it’s not dry socket. If it was youde be crying right now. Soooo painful it’s unreal.

headbangez · 25/09/2018 23:10

No it's not painful. I would say tender. So glad I didn't get dry socket it sounds horrific.
