she's finding it difficult to walk-although teacher made her run today with all the other kids and she came second!?she says she didn't know how to say "no" so she did it even though she was in so much pain.
tonight, she's still in agony so i've given her another dose of kids'nurofen.does anyone know if there's any type of bug like this going around? she had an "aching throat"last night although that seems to have gone now and she also had headache that "came and went" today. i know they're practising for sports day and i presumed it was because she had to jump over hurdles yesterday which she found harder than the others as she's quite small for her age.

don't know particularly but this sounds viral to me - keep an eye on her.

similiar thread here www.mumsnet.com/Talk?topicid=138&threadid=334780& amp;stamp=070607132149

My dd has a scan & xray tomorrow - will update.

TheArmadillo · 07/06/2007 21:03

has she pulled/over used some muscles exercising? Would a warm bath or hot water bottle help?

Maybe she's coming down with something.

Elibean · 07/06/2007 22:30

cutekids...I know this will probably sound barking, but my first thought was 'viral' and then my second was 'onset of puberty???'. I think because aching back, tummy and legs is how I have always felt before a period - and the worst ever was before my very first one.

9 would be young, but certainly not unheard of, so thought I'd mention it - long shot, sorry, probably mad idea .

I hope she feels better soon, poor love - headache and throat do make it sound more likely to be viral, there are some very achey ones around!

MorocconOil · 07/06/2007 22:37

That was my immediate thought as well Elibean.

Elibean · 07/06/2007 22:46

Phew, not totally barking then!

NotSoSlimFashion · 07/06/2007 22:57

first thing I thought of too - period. Mine was terrible when I first started, I threw up in my French lesson and was in agony. I was quite young, not 9 but only 11 or 12.

gosh!thanks everyone! i left the website last night and didn't realize anyone had replied until this morning.
she had a lovely long soak in the bath last night which she said helped a "little" and she put some pillows under her legs to sleep.also, gave her another dose of nurofen.unfortunately, although at first she thought her legs were feeling better, she's gone to school again with painful legs. i don't know whether to give it another day or so before i take her to the doctor...i usually whisk her straight off with anything at all(1st daughter thing!)but i don't want her to miss school if i can help it.problem is,even though i wrote a note to her teacher explaining everything yesterday, she still made her do some type of running yesterday.she said the teacher just embarrassed her when she read my note and said,"come on....you know why your joints are sore now don't you?".
I'm hoping the teacher's correct in thinking it's just exercise that's caused it but i'm terrified it's something else.

by the way,i too thought of periods.
in this day and age it's not that uncommon for girls to start their periods at 9! my friend's daughter did!

my dd had a scan & x-ray (not at peterborough hospital) and the condition she has is Toxic Synovitis.

Rest, pain meds & check ups - hopefully will go in 2 weeks.
