Contraceptive pill for over 40s

Reluctantly I think I might have to go back on the pill after many years pill-free. My periods are so heavy and annoying and I’m now anaemic and I want to stop having periods every month. Of course I have considered the coil and the implant but I think I prefer something a little easier to control myself.

I was on microgynon for many years and then Yasmin (Jasmin?) which was brilliant as it was one that people don’t put on weight with. But I don’t think you should have it over 40. This is my first bit of research so I’m not fully clued up on what pills are out there these days. Things I would like to avoid would definitely include weight gain!

What pill are you on over 40 and does it work for you? TIA.

You are ok to have a combined pill over 40 as long as you don't smoke, aren't overweight and have ok blood pressure. Otherwise the mini pill might suit too

I'm 42 and on Yasmin, GP very keen to offer alternatives but having tried others I'm sticking to it.

I'm over 40 and on Noriday (mini-pill) despite the GP always trying to steer me towards an implant. Previously on Cerazette which gave me acne and made me put on weight.

What about the injection? No periods on that one.

I'm on a mini-pill (Noriday?) after GP recommended I switched from Microgynon. My periods have virtually stopped, but I do have a get a few spots. A dr. I saw through work said I needn't have come off Microgynon Confused

I had periods all the time with the injection and put on tons of weight

Is Yasmin the combined pill? I’m not overweight and don’t smoke and my blood pressure is always on the low side of normal. Maybe I could go back on that again.

I’m reluctant to try something as semi permanent as the implant or injection just in case it has bad side effects. I’ve had hormonal issues in the past - I have had an underactive thyroid for over 20 years - and can’t face the thought of messing with my weight or hormones too much.

I faced the same thing recently with the added joy of large polyps. I felt the same about control but in the end I decided on the merina coil though as I preferred the idea of the hormone being where it was needed (in the main) rather than throughout my body. I know it still gets to the rest of the system but doses are smaller. I am only one week in but so far so good.
