Thyroid again

Had my bloods done , as my TSH has been creeping up over the past year, last time it was 3.6. Now it is 4.25 and I feel horrible. However my GP has marked it “satisfactory”. They didn’t test T4, and the lab also refused to test my vit d. It was 20 when tested last year, again marked as fine. I’m so fed up. I feel so rough . How do I find someone private who I can self refer to ? I can’t think straight.

Poor you! Are you on levothroxine? Thyroid uk have a list of endocrinologists to see privately. It would be helpful if you had a full thyroid test from blue horizons or medichecks to discuss at the appointment. I thought vit D under 30 was deficient and ideally should be around 100.

Yes, I’m on thyroxine. I haven’t felt really well since my thyroid first went under but at the moment I’m much worse than usual.
Yes 20 is far too low but they didn’t flag it, so I didn’t realise for ages.
I’ve never heard of blue horizon /medichecks. I’ll go and google. I’ve seen that thyroid uk have a list but I have no idea how to pick someone off it. I suppose I just have to go for anyone.

Ive been told with an auto immune disease to aim for vit d of 125

When medicated your TSH should be around 1. You are undermedicated.

Wheretorun · 07/09/2018 08:19

Gosh you must feel dreadful. You need to change GPs i think🤔. That's appalling not to even test ft4. As 9amtrain says, TSH needs to be under 1 when medicated. Personally, mine needs to be 0.1 to get my ft4 and ft3 high enough to feel well.
The endos thyroiduk list have been used and recommended by forum members. That's how I chose my endo. Once you have an endo on side, they will be able to direct your GP. I see my endo once a year now my medication is optimal. It's around £200 and worth it to stay well.

I would happily pay to see someone. I live in a relatively remote ,rural part of Wales, so I imagine I’ll have to travel a fair way .
When my TSH was around 1 I felt much closer to normal , but I still had no stamina. Anything over 2 and I feel rough, it’s been well over two for a year now. My hair won’t grow at all and is now also shedding. My blood pressure has gone up, is that connected or just because I’ve put weight on ?
I’ve been taking vit D supplements so wanted to check if they are working, but the lab refused to test it , according to the receptionist, which seems insane to me. My brother had very low vit d too, and our mother had severe osteoporosis, so I wonder if we don’t absorb it very well as a family.

There is a good website called Thyroid Patient Advocacy with a Forum. I've found them helpful in the past.

Some GPs in this country are so bad at helping with thyroid issues.

Sorry, should have posted the link: www.tpauk.com

Oh thank you, I’ll go and look at that now. Am in bed with coffee, trying to wake up !
