Dh thinks he has penis cancer

Argh! Trying not to panic until he’s been to the Dr but still...argh!
Anyone had a dh with this or had it themselves? He’s been having headaches which he thought were stress related, has pain in his lower back and found a lesion on his penis under the foreskin. Said it’s grown within the last month.

He’s off to the Dr soon but I just wanted to hear from anyone that’s experienced this if you think these could all be linked?
A close family member had similar symptoms but left them untreated and died so obviously that makes us worried.

The Dr has referred him on to urology next week. Said she couldn’t say either way but it doesn’t look great..

Sorry op. I dont have any experience or knowledge of this..hope it comes back clear, what a worrying time for you. Fingers crossed all is ok.

SoupDragon · 05/09/2018 11:17

I have nothing to offer but at least he is getting it looked at, unlike your other family member.

Impulsesealer · 05/09/2018 13:35

How long do you usually have to wait to find out if it is cancer?

Did the GP say that it doesn't look good? That would be very unusual given that she has no information to make that judgement and a GP wouldn't normally say anything that might cause a patient to feel anxious.
If he's been referred under the two week wait process, he will get at least an exclusionary diagnosis quite quickly i.e. they will be testing to exclude cancer first. Try not to worry, most conditions aren't cancer.

Imnotaslimjim · 05/09/2018 13:41

So sorry to hear this.

The NHS has timelines in place for suspect referrals. Initial contact should be within 2 weeks. After that it can take a couple of weeks for scan results or biopsies to come back and a decision made on treatment plans etc.

I hope it's something simple and easily fixed

freshstart24 · 05/09/2018 13:42

Very unusual for a GP to say that kind of thing. Not very helpful at all...

It will be a maximum of a two week wait under the cancer pathway.

I totally understand your worry OP, and I would feel the same. However, it is true that the vast majority of things turn out not to be cancerous.

Impulsesealer · 05/09/2018 13:43

I wasn’t there, he said she obviously couldn’t say what it was. He might have come away with the impression she’d said it didn’t look good without her actually saying it if you know what I mean.
Glad he won’t have to wait long. Trying to distract myself but can’t help that niggling worry.

“It doesn’t look good” can mean many things too. She might have said “it needs to be looked at” rather than handing him a prescription for some cream which has the implication of “it doesn’t loook good”.

It’s easy to say, less easy to do, but don’t panic until the next appointment. And don’t google!

Impulsesealer · 05/09/2018 14:32

That’s true. Trying not to panic but dh is all over google! According to Dr Google cancer is the only possible outcome. Tempted to drown his phone tbh

Step away from Dr Google, he's a miserly good for nothing twat. Fact.

Off the top of my (non doctory) head I can think of about 5 things it could be. The headaches and back ache could both be stress/tension.

SinkGirl · 05/09/2018 14:44

I literally can’t tell you how many times Dr Google has said I have cancer. And my kids.

In fact, the only time Dr Google didn’t immediately say cancer was when my mum actually had terminal cancer.

If Dr G says cancer, it’s probably fine.

(In all seriousness, we went through this with a lump in DH’s scrotum so I know how scary it is - he should hopefully be seen within 2 weeks)

Rosemary46 · 05/09/2018 14:45

I’d say that half the women I know have headaches and Lower back pain and they definitely don’t have penis cancer.

Is your husband usually over anxious about things ? Does he stress a lot about his health ?

Impulsesealer · 05/09/2018 15:04

It’s usually me that’s anxious not him. I think with seeing my relative be diagnosed and then dead less than 2 weeks later it’s put the shits up him.

What else do you think it could be?

My ExH had problems with the skin under his foreskin for over a year. He was referred to dermatology after he had put off going to the doctor’s for months. I’m the end, there was no specific diagnosis, but it was some kind of idiopathic skin condition. It took several tires to get it to clear up (different cream etc) but it’s OK now. He also thought he had cancer so I understand the worry, but statistically it’s far more likely to be something else. I’ll keep my fingers and toes crossed for you both.

chasinggarlic · 05/09/2018 15:11

Maybe she just thought his penis generally didn't look good Grin

Sorry, just making light. But I do hope he is alright. Dr. Google is awful, he is killed off most of my fam at one point or another - oddly we are all still living Wink

notapizzaeater · 05/09/2018 15:13

Now he's in the system it should be quick so you won't have to worry for long

MollyHuaCha · 06/09/2018 19:14

Hope he gets a clear diagnosis soon so he can get the correct treatment.
