Can genital warts spread to wrists?

I’ve posted this in chat too but thought I might get more replies here. A man I’ve been seeing has just rang to say he’s been told by the doctor that he has warts. He said he’s got one on the back of his knee, wrist, back of his neck and in the genital area. In panic I’ve spent hours trawling the internet, and from what I can gather there are different types of warts, with only some being STDs. It seems ‘common’ warts can be spread from your hands to other parts of your body, but can the genital wart strain spread to your hands? It doesn’t seem like it can.

It was a quick conversation but the doctor has said there nothing that can be done but to wait it out, but it says online that they can take years to disappear, but when my friend had actual genital warts the doctor immediately gave her treatment. I’m really confused. Can anyone medical help?

Is it molluscum contagiosum?

Helpneededplease3 · 04/09/2018 17:22

Thanks for the reply. He said the doctor said it’s human papilloma.

Googling suggests they appear on moist places not knees, wrists, etc. That's why I thought it could be molluscum

@dementedpixie Warts can appear on any part of your body.

@Helpneededplease3 They are many different types of HPV. As far as I was aware the genital wart virus will only affect genital and not pass onto other parts of your body. Of course it is perfectly possible that he has more than one type of HPV giving him both genital warts and warts on other parts of his body.

And yes genital warts will often be treated to prevent it spreading. Warts elsewhere can be treated but generally it's a waiting game. They can disappear and reappear regularly,

Yeah that’s what I thought. It’s possible but I’d have thought a huge coincidence, and surely the doctor would have treated genital warts.

Sorry, cross posted with you there. I think he’s heard warts and not realised that there are different strains.
