My dh and I have BOTH been diagnosed with it! Except My dh has it in his arm and I have it in my back. Its extremely rare apparently, yet me and dh have it! Strange!

To me it feels like my nerves are jumping around between my shoulder blades. Its an uncomfortable feeling and I get very restless and cant stay still. I mainly get it at night.

My dh had a shoulder op about 5 years ago and doc thinks it could be something to do with it. He is very jumpy when he gets it and his arm goes into spasms.

Just wondered if anyone has this or knows anything about it???????

DL if you don't like veg, what about increasing your fruit, salad, grains, pulses - eg lentils as in soups, and try dried fruits especially apricots. All very good for you. HTH. Red meat is a good source of iron, but the other things I have mentioned are good too. Including some orange juice or other vit. C with your meals, and cutting out the caffeine will ensure that you absorb up to 4 times as much iron from your food as you would if you didn't have the vit c and did have the caffeine - if that makes sense.

btw i would very much recommend the spatone sachets - i was prescribed iron tablets but they had vile stomach consequences iykwim

spatone far more gentle (but £6-odd for a month's supply so not cheap)

dionnelorraine · 07/06/2007 09:34

That does make sense 3littlefrogs. I have re-written my shopping list already! I will give it a few days and then let you know if it works (which it will) Thank you so much, I feel very relieved that it can be sorted.

Thanks IMOM. I will get that today too. I cant take normal iron tabs for the same reason! it gets me bad!!!!

You are all so clever!!

isnt 'restless leg syndrome' one of the biggest undiagnosed causes of sleeplessness??

woopsadaisy · 07/06/2007 09:45

It's a lot more common than people think. Also known as Ekbom syndrome. Some people who are diagnosed as adults remember that they've had symptoms since they were little. It's good that you've been given a diagnosis as some doctors are a bit sceptical about it. Iron depletion can cause it but you would usually be very anaemic for this. There's a lot of information here.

Thank you Zooagain. I am genarally anaemic, so thats probably why, but my DH isnt.

Thanks for the link!!!!!!

Red wine gives me restless legs.

Bananas seem to help me. To do with the potassium I think.

LynetteScavo · 08/06/2007 09:38

I've had this since I was a child - my sister gets it too. It's mainly in the evening when I'm tired. I used to complain of "fizzy blood" in my legs.

GreedyGecko · 08/06/2007 09:48

I get this, as with most others when I'm tired. I tend to get it mostly just as I've dropped off to sleep, then it wakes both DP & I up. If my legs not twitching then DP is having spasms in his leg from an accident he had. Fortunately for him, he doesn't know he's having them, but it wakes me up. Grrr!

dionnelorraine · 08/06/2007 09:52

I didnt realise so many people suffered from this! Most people have it in their legs (hence rLs) I think its just weird how my dh has it in his arm and I get it in my back!

And yes, fizzy blood is a good way of explaining it!

its generally when we are in bed we get it too, so must be to do with tiredness aswel, as lack of iron.

my husband and i have this in our legs mainly at night and my mum has it too she has pills for it which sort of help

chipkid · 08/06/2007 09:56

I got it during both pregnancies. Never had it before or since. VVV annoying it is too

LynetteScavo · 08/06/2007 11:00

I find walking around, going outside for a breath of fresh air helps. I always presumed it was a lack of oxygen.
