Does anyone/everyone get spasms?

Just as above, just musing and thinking weather I should bother to see a gp about it.

For over many years I have been getting painful spasms in my left arm but not frequently, the spasms can be so severe and random that my arm flys out. I think it's mostly related to being cold.
I noticed on my last attack it was right up to my neck on that side.

I also have minimum 15yr old pins in that arm from a chilhood break so thought it could be related in someway.

Occasionally I get numbness in that arm lasting a few days and the right arm is starting to do it too at the tips but then that could be just carpal tunnel as was diagnosed once with it by a G.p when I had cronic numbness/weakness up to my forearm.

Can people get spasms for no real reason, for example being cold.?

Hi, I have spasms in my left side, mostly my leg. Mine is related to irritation from a syrinx in my spinal cord, and I get them mostly at night.

I think it would be worth seeing a GP. They may want to rule out an underlying cause by referring you for scans etc. There is medication you can take - I take pregabalin anyway for pain, and that was very effective for spasms. I have also tried baclofen, but it gave me headaches, and am now taking clonazepam, which is working well so far. I think you just have to try and see what suits, and whether the side effects are worth it if they are fairly infrequent.

I find that stretching helps, so a few sessions with a physio could be useful. They tend to be very good at pinpointing pins and needle type things too. In my area you can self-refer to an NHS physio and have an appointment a couple of days later.

Thanks for your response, I've put up with it for years as it isn't debilitating and feels odd to seek out a G.p when I'm not likely to be having spasms at the time and imagine they might brush me off.

It is painful and can last for up to half an hour, last time I did force a stretch through the smaller spasms and it seemed to relieve it, the spasms were right up to my neck or atleast linked at that point.

I will think about when I can get to the G.p
