Piles/Haemorrhoids

I've had bottom issues for a long time. A little bleeding when passing stools, etc. Figured I have piles and the odd little cut from straining. (So sorry) Never been a big enough deal for me to see the doctors. But today, my bottom is bleeding into the bowl when I'm pushing. I was horrified to see so much blood when I went to flush.

What will they do if I go to the doctors? Whatever this is, it's not external, so what would the doctors give me or do to me?

Preferably, is there anything I can try myself? I don't think I can face someone going up there.

Have you tried taking some stool softening tablets? Also try drinking plenty of water, cutting down on alcohol & processed foods and also have a good handful of dried prunes daily. I found this worked for me, that and also not pushing when I needed to go, more just 'letting it happen' if I felt I had to go. Took a little while, but has done the trick for me

After having my daughter I had a lot of problems like this. So painful to go to the loo, cuts inside and a lot of blood in the bowl. I found Anusol really good. You just put it inside and outside and it really helped. Within a few days I didn’t have any blood or pain. Sorry if you have tried this though, hope you get it sorted soon!!

With bleeding it is likely GP will prescribe cream or something or refer you to a specialist.
It's not really something you want to ignore as you can loose a lot of blood very quickly.

Get some anusol suppositories and / or cream from the supermarket / pharmacy if you are sure it is piles as that’s the first thing to try . Also agree with pp about stool softeners , eating fibre and drinking plent6 of water .

My stools are often soft enough. Certainly not always, but they are today. It's just seems a little blocked at times.

I do need to take better care of my diet though, so I'll take that on board anyway, and try the anusol. Can I just pick that off the shelf or do I need to ask the pharmacist?

Anusol is good, but I think you should get a GP appointment booked anyway. I'm sure it's nothing sinister, but it's worth getting checked out just in case. Bowel cancer is nasty if not caught early.

Should I be concerned about bleeding down there? As in, it's inside, not outside, so could become infected?? Blush

Disclsiner: not medical. Have lots of first-hand experience of piles though, unfortunately.

Well, piles can be internal or external, so I wouldn't panic about infection unless you've got a temperature/are feeling rough. I do still think it's worth ringing the GP though go, for a non-emergency appt. If nothing else, they'll prescribe the more effective bum cream!
