Hypothyroidism?

Got a Drs appointment finally after putting it off for months.
Have a DD, 16 months so i put all my symptoms down to that, but surely it can't be.
I'm constantly tired, as soon as i wake up i am tired, struggling to keep my eyes open, and i have a good 7-8 hours sleep a night, sometimes more sometimes less bur i still feel the same. I eat a balanced diet, lots of fruit/veg, not many bad snacks, say around a biscuit/cracker a day with a tea. I take 1 sugar in my tea, probably twice a day, but i cannot shift any weight, ive stayed the same weight for 16 months now, with exercise, I walk around 1 and a half hours a day, and do a 30 minute workout at home 3 days a week with free weights.
My hair is falling out, and is so brittle, my skin is dry. I am constipated much of the time.
I'm always feeling down, i thought baby blues, Or Post natal depression, but my thoughts aren't to do with baby, our bond is great. I'm just anxious all the time of the future, worrying.
Does it sound like hypothyroidism? Hope the DR eill be able to give me a diagnosis, I can barely function!

This is exactly how I felt after DC1 was born and I was diagnosed with an under active thyroid (Hashimotos disease) Now I’m medicated and it’s under control, I feel like a new person.

I hope you get some answers.

Try to have a blood test as early in the morning as you can as that will show the best reading. Sadly GP's still have a long way to go in understanding this condition (if indeed that's what you have). I was fobbed off then put on a ridiculously small dose of medication for 2 years which did a lot of damage. Also get a full iron panel done, plus vit d and B12 - deficiencies in any of these can make you feel terrible and they have to be optimal to help your thyroid. Loads of expert (not mine) advice on Health Unlocked - thyroid uk site. Good luck and feel better soon.

My dr usually fobs me off when i ask for bloods done, how shall i make her believe i may have a problem!

You'll probably need a separate appointment with a nurse/HCA for blood tests. Ask for it to be a in the morning.

It does sound like it could be thyroid related. Do you have a family history of it, have you got any other auto immune conditions or did you have glandular fever as a teen? They are all risk factors that might push the GP into testing.

You have to lay it on thick - don't say "tired", say "exhausted", don't say balanced diet, say healthy diet etc and maybe say that someone else has suggested that it could be hypothyroidism, not that you've googled it, as they hate that! Maybe you 'know someone with thyroid problems' who has suggested you get tested? I find that it helps if they think someone else knows about my issues, its not just me and Dr Google!

If they agree to blood tests try prompting them to test for a few things, ask which ones they're recommending and then say "could it be anything else? While I'm having blood drawn can they do iron/vitamins etc as well to save me coming back?"

I was fobbed off with a diagnosis of post natal depression for months, given anti-depressants etc and it wasn't until the 4th time I went back to say that the ADs weren't working and insisting they test my thyroid, that a locum doctor happened to be there and he agreed to test it. My TSH was 200+ (supposed to be under 5!!) and he said "oh dear, you must have been feeling very poorly indeed" Confused Hmm um, yeah!

Good luck getting it sorted, hope you feel better soon, whatever it is. Flowers
