Hi
I’ve got health anxiety and it has been worse recently triggered by some other bad news i’ve had.
I noticed a mole this week - it doesn’t look especially worrying. Is symmetrical, one coloured, distinct borders - but it triggered the anxiety so I ran it through skin vision and it has come back high risk. I really didn’t expect that. Anyone else been here and it’s turned out ok? I’m not sure I can cope with this, I’ve got a sick child to care for and I wasn’t coping well anyway. X

Hi @Lottie7777

I used skin vision last year on a mole that had changed. It rated it high risk.

I ignored it initially - as my GP said the mole was fine- but then I received an email from skin vision asking what the outcome had been so it pushed me to have it checked again.

It turned out to be melanoma, obviously not great, but I had it removed ( and a bit more around it) and I'm absolutely fine now.

That probably isn't the story you want to hear, however it shows that even in a bad case , it's easily sorted. It's important to get it looked at as quickly as you can though

Good luck xx

Ive been to the gp this morning. He is confident it is nothing, probably blood under the skin from some trauma. I do trust him, he was lovely, but it makes me wonder how skin vision and the gp can see such a difference.

I had a mole which was 1cm wide, non-symmetrical, variations in colour and variations in height. Basically, massive and weird. I bet skin vision would have rated it high risk.

Over the years it was checked by two GPs and three dermatologists and they all thought it was fine. An atypical mole but benign.

Even so, I had it removed privately this year. I thought it might have changed plus I found myself always worried about what if all those doctors were wrong. Removed, tested and results showed it was benign.

So for me it turned out that even some of the weird looking ones can be fine and the doctors usually seem to be able to tell the difference. If you're worrying, a second opinion might help put your mind at rest.
