Biglips - not to worry you, but 'toddler diarrhoea' is much more of an ongoing thing ime - I think it's descriptive of how their poos tend to be, rather than something they catch iyswim. Ds1 and dd both had this - was a total nightmare, 18months each of explosive poos everywhere.

Things that supposedly help are not giving too much apple juice (haha, mine didn't have any) and making sure they have enough bulk in their diet (cereal etc). Made no difference to mine though.

If it clears up then it was probably a bug!

yes im just reading it now about it and it in last 2 weeks she is having less juice and is only having milk on her brekkie...and she have other things that got calcium in it too. so ive got take a sample of the stench l8ter and take it in

ds has been put on laxatives and while we're ajusting the dose - erm well you don't want to change those nappies, put it that way.

If it suddenly came on it could well be a bug - they can sometimes take a couple of weeks to clear. Try giving her some live yoghurt to replace good bacteria!

hi - my dd is 18months and has had the squits on and off for about a month (mostly on!) .. at the moment it is so bad that she has got a nasty nappy rash with it.
Is there really such a thing as "toddler diarrhea" as it says in the title?
Do you think I should take her to the doctors? .. she's been fit and healty other than than this.
any tips to get rid of it?

thx Kingy x

I found the concept of "toddler diarrhoea" quite doubtful. However, have discussed it with a paediatrician, after it happened to my toddler and it appears to be common and genuine hence the coining of the phrase.

It's probably less to do with a bug and more to do with toddlers and their bowels which, at that age, seem to settle into patterns which can last for some time. It can start with a bug, which can indeed take some time to clear (picture all those yards of bowel and intestines!) by which time the toddler bowels have settled into a habit.

DD (now 8) had "toddler diarrhoea" for 3 months when she was a toddler.. I quite thought she had an intolerence of some kind.. and then one day they just went back to normal! I was so excited when she first produced a normal "pattie poo" again that I had to phone my family in Kent to tell them.. forgot to empty the potty.. and DD decided to "dispose of it" (inadedequately!) herself!! The memory lingers...

And enough said about that actually!!
