Allergic to ring?

Help! I have been married for 15 years and have worn my wedding ring every day throughout that time, until now. Suddenly I got an itchy red ring of skin directly under where the ring sits. I removed it for a few weeks and cleaned the ring well in case there was soap residue or something under there and when my finger was totally better I wore it again and within a few hours the same happened again. Surely I cannot suddenly be allergic after all of these years? Sad

I was wondering if anyone has any ideas, thank you

has something you've washed your hands in reacted to the metal, you could take it into a jeweller to have a good look and see if there's some sort of coating they can put on the inside. have you tried it on another finger, does the same thing happen.

Thank you, I will give that a go

Or try a coat of clear nail varnish on the inner surface. Mine are the same but I usually just take z break from wearing them and then they are fine again for a few months.

I am allergic to some metal(maybe nickel), and normally fine with 18k gold, but I do have a reaction when I am under the weather or a bit unwell.
I became suddenly allergic to metal when I pierced my ear, couldn't wait till properly healed and worn silver earrings and ended up infected.

You can become allergic to anything at any time. Maybe look at titanium, its hypoallergenic.

Is your ring white gold? I became allergic to my white gold wedding ring because the shiny coating wore off and my skin was coming into contact with the metal. Jeweller thinks I must be allergic to the nickel in the white gold. Ended up replacing the ring for a yellow gold one. No problems at all now!

There is such a thing as "Wedding ring rash", it's surprisingly common, and I got it a couple of years ago, after wearing mine for over 20 years. The rash reappeared every time I wore to, so in the end I took to wearing it on my right hand - no rash. I also have a theory that blood sugar levels have a part to play with this rash, as I get pompholyx whenever I eat high-carb foods, usually I follow a low-carb way of eating. Just my thoughts.

Try having it professionally cleaned by a jeweller to make sure there's nothing hiding anywhere underneath. Also, when washing your hands, take your rings off or make sure you dry under the rings properly.

I developed an allergy to my wedding ring a few years ago, it's 18ct gold and most likely it's because of whatever other metals are in with it. If I put DHs on, my finger tingles within a few seconds. My engagement ring is ok though! Anyway, we've had a copy of mine made in platinum and sadly my original ring now lives in my jewellery box.

Thanks so much, will definitely try all these ideas out. The hand washing is definitely an issue as I work in a hospital so wash my hands constantly. Thanks again.

I have the exact same thing. Fine for five years and now this constant rash! Following for advice.

Sounds like a reaction to the nickel in the gold. I have the same if I wear 9c. My wedding had to be replaced with an 18c one and has been fine for the last 8 years. I also get the same problem if the stud fastener on jeans touches my skin
