What did it feel like and what did it turn out to be? I've got an appt tomorrow for one that I've been keeping an eye on for a few weeks that's not gone away and I'm just pondering what it could be. I'm fully aware that 9 out of 10 aren't suspicious ones.

No appointment yet, no letter yet either buy I'm not surprised as I on,y saw the gp on Wed. She said to expect a letter some time this week but that's quick for Wales still.

My lump felt like an old, dried out pea under the skin.

DrMadelineMaxwell · 04/09/2018 00:02

Mine's more....squishy than dried.

It's definitely bigger than when I first noticed it, but the fact that the doctor didn't seem concerned means it's not preying on my mind and I will just wait and see what the appointment brings, whenever I get that.

DrMadelineMaxwell · 08/09/2018 10:49

Appointment a week on Monday.

user1471476854 · 08/09/2018 12:22

@DrMadelineMaxwell good luck 👍🏻

I had my results of the biopsy Thursday. Thankfully it’s a benign lump. No further action because it’s only 1cm in size.

DrMadelineMaxwell · 08/09/2018 13:26

That's a marvellous result. I'll bet you are relieved.

user1471476854 · 08/09/2018 14:37

So relieved. If you need a biopsy don’t worry. It was honestly painless.

DrMadelineMaxwell · 08/09/2018 17:53

That's good to know.

Notquiteagandt · 08/09/2018 17:59

Lump like an olive on edge boob almost under armpit.

Went drs who said she couldnt feel it but agreed it felt swollen.

As im pregnant said could be an inflamed duct but has reffered me.

Got my appointment for next week. Just under 2 weeks from seeing dr.

The letter says to exspect to spend at least 5 hrs there. As they will examine me, ultrasound me, mammogram (not me as pregnant but anyone else they would) then biopsy and tissue speak with nurse then home results back with in a week and meet with surgeon if neccessary.

It was obviously just a generic leaflet.

But I think with boobs they dont mess around.

Good luck Flowers

Found lump in left breast on friday 3 august. Went to gp on Monday 6 August and was given red flag referral to Breast clinic. Was diagnosed with bc on 15 August and had mastectomy on Monday 3 September. Will get my next stage treatment plan on Thursday. Fingers crossed it’s been caught early. Hope everyone goes ok for you op.

DrMadelineMaxwell · 08/09/2018 23:23

5 HOURS! Flipping heck. I was hoping to be back in time to teach in the afternoon so hopefully it's quicker for me.

The gp said there were good signs and it's mostly a precaution so hopefully I won't need all the different tests and won't take as long.

DrMadelineMaxwell · 15/09/2018 19:38

Roll on Monday! I know full well that pain in the breast is not an indication of something sinister, but mine HURTS and it will be good to know that it's nothing to worry about after the tests at the clinic.

spacefighter · 15/09/2018 19:45

Both grandparents had breast cancer and my mum fought breast cancer a couple of years ago. When I found a pea size lump my gp sent me to the breast clinic, my appointment arrived a couple of weeks later luckily they said the lump was like gristle and would go away on its own. Good luck OP hope things turn out ok x

cloudtree · 15/09/2018 19:52

I have one at the moment. Its apparently a cyst. It started off pea sized but is now more like a marble.

HouseOfGoldandBones · 15/09/2018 19:59

I've done it twice.

First time was much more stressful.

Felt a lump & got an appointment with GP same day. She said she didn't think it was serious but would make appointment at the clinic. Appointment was 4 days later. Mammogram & ultrasound, and it was 3 cysts (I could only feel 1), and had them drained.

But was told that they may come back & if they did, I could self-refer to clinic. Happened again around 2 years later, so phoned, was told to come in the next day, and repeated the process.

HidingFromDD · 15/09/2018 20:02

Large lump came up quite quickly. Referred to specialist. Was non infected mastitis (3 years after stopping breastfeeding). Huge doses of evening primrose oil sorted it out.
It was also quite painful and some redness on outside of breast

DrMadelineMaxwell · 15/09/2018 20:23

No redness, just painful where my lump is and painful in under the armpit too, although I can't feel a lump there and the gp ddn't notice one either.

Started off as one small (tip of little finger size) non-hard lump. Now it's either bigger or there's more than one as it's a bit longer.

My gp not being concerned means I'm not bricking it, but I am looking forward to the peace of mind that reassurance from the tests will bring if they agree with the GP.

yikesanotherbooboo · 15/09/2018 21:19

If you are post menopausal you will be referred to the breast clinic via 2WW pathway.
If the lump feels very innocent ie smooth and mobile etc and you are premenopausal your GP will invite you back after your next period and if the lump is still there will refer you as above via 2WW.
If the lump feels more complicated you will get referred straightaway to be on safe side.

DrMadelineMaxwell · 15/09/2018 21:29

Def not post menopausal.

No periods due to POP. But I did wait about 8 weeks before getting it checked as have been sent away before and had the lump disappear by itself.
Yes to mobile and smooth, hence GP not being too concerned.
But my dsis had BC at the age of 35. Despite it being triple neg, they still referred me under 2ww to get it looked at, which is v reassuring.

I could do without it hurting. On nearly everything I've read, they say that pain is not usually the initial presenting symptom for BC. But it was for my dsis. Complicated by the fact that she has a pacemaker. She thought it was that that was hurting. They checked it out looking for scar tissue causing pain and found the BC.

Being referred on the safe side suits me fine.

thegreylady · 16/09/2018 11:19

Triple neg is often associated with genetic change eg BRAC 1 which is familial. Yours certainly sounds as if all will be fine. My lump, was found at routine mammo when I was 62. It was a 2cm triple neg bc. That was 12 years ago now.

DrMadelineMaxwell · 17/09/2018 20:31

Checking back in post-appointment.

2 and a half hours in total.
Saw doctor and got groped after being gowned up on the top half. He immediately said it wasn't worrying him overtly, but I'd still get a mammogram.
Waited in a ladies-only waiting room.
Had mammogram.
Returned to waiting room still in gown.
Had ultrasound. Ultrasound lady straight away said what she thought it was, but that I'd still see the doctor before leaving.
Waited again in the room.

Saw the doctor who confirmed results. Some cysts, but nothing that needed doing about them. And some fibrous tissue which was what was the lumpiness that I could feel.

I have been added on to the trial early screening programme, so I will have mammograms every 3 years starting now (44) instead of when I get to 50.

Happy with that result. A bit tender from having my boobs prodded and squashed. But very relieved.

Waited again
