eeek, my nearly 10 month old just did a very odd wee! Anyone seen this before? What is it?

Tried calling the HV but as usual the useless gets aren't answering the phone....

what colour fluorescent? yellow / green / orange?
been eating anything unusual?
bf / ff?
temperature?
otherwise fine?

ungratefuldaughter · 06/06/2007 11:23

are you giving vitamin drops as vitamin B2 riboflavin does this

bohemianbint · 06/06/2007 11:23

it was very yellow! He's still bf and I don't think he's eaten anything unusual. He is teething though? Doesn't seem to have a temperature and apart from going mad every time I put him down (again, I'd think that was the teething) he seems alright. Dunno what to do!

it was very warm yesterday , perhaps he could have drunk slightly less than he needed? trying uping his water intake today and see if that changes anything

mears · 06/06/2007 11:28

You don't need to do anything if he is otherwise well.

ungratefuldaughter · 06/06/2007 11:30

if very yellow could just be very concentrated possibly not enough fluid yesterday (was it hot where you live) or maybe his system is maturing ready for later when urine production slows overnight and eventual dry nights

perpetuaphoenixfire · 06/06/2007 11:32

has he been eating a lot of something yellow or orange? too much beetroot turns your wee red/pink (mil told me she took dh to docs over this), not sure if it works with carrots and stuff but you never know

saintmaybe · 06/06/2007 11:32

do you remember that thread about someone's dc eating the inside of a glo-stick

agree that if he's otherwise fine prob nothing to worry about. Could be a bit dehydrated?

saintmaybe · 06/06/2007 11:33

The child was fine, btw

bohemianbint · 06/06/2007 12:54

jesus, aren't glo sticks radioactive?!

Well, next nappy was normal. I'll make sure he gets loads of fluids as you say imps, and hope it was just a weirdy one off thing! Cheers for help - obviously I shoudl bypass HVs and come straight here!

Maybe theres a urine infection. IS there a different smell about the wet nappies?

MrsBadger · 06/06/2007 12:59

colour change not usually an indicator of urine infection

ungratefuldaughter · 06/06/2007 13:02

glo-sticks aren't radioactive (wouldn't be allowed to sell them especially at that price didn't polonium 210 in the russian man cost about a million pounds) and you can't see radioactivity (need detectors or photographic plates or something)

bohemianbint · 06/06/2007 13:06

I'm sure they're made of the same stuff that they used to put on clock hands in the 80's. I think they stopped using it because loads of the people who painted it onto the clock hands got cancer?

OP posts:
ungratefuldaughter · 06/06/2007 13:13

in the glo-sticks the glo only happens when you twist them to mix two chemicals together and doesn't last very long, luminescent like in glow worms

the stuff in the watches is permanent and the painters would lick the paintbrush to keep the bristles together

bohemianbint · 06/06/2007 13:18

Well, I live and learn!

Not seen glo sticks for years....sigh...
