Anyone want to try and diagnose me

I have a doctors appt in a few weeks but in the meantime does anyone have a clue what could be wrong with me.

It’s a problem I’ve suffered with for a while (12 months ish, maybe longer) and it’s slightly embarrassing and I’ve been putting it off...it’s also got progressively worse to the point I can no longer ignore.

So after every time I open my bowels I get the following symptoms ;

Shooting pains in my bottom
Tingly leg (left)
Pins and needles/radiating tingling in my foot arch (left)
This tingly sensation in my leg and foot and shooting pains in my bottom can last for hours and hours. In fact I’m getting concerned now that it’s almost constant and gets worse after the toilet. And I’m struggling to get to sleep every night because the tingly foot in particular is driving me crazy :-(

I’m sure it’s nerve related but how is my bottom and foot connected in this way?!

Sounds like some kind of nerve problem in your lower back, how are you at passing urine?

Can you try and get an earlier Dr appointment?

Yogagirl123 · 29/08/2018 07:59

I am not medical but tingling always warrants investigation. Any other symptoms? Keep a diary and see GP earlier if possible.

Thank you for responding.

I could get a same day emergency appointment. I may end up having to do this as the lack of sleep is really getting to me now. I’ve woken up and aware of a slight tingly sensation but nothing like when I went to bed, so it does wear off. Or maybe it’s just being up and about I don’t notice it as much.

Passing urine is fine. I did wonder if the opening of bowels was more related to sitting on the toilet for longer and it pressing on a nerve hence causing my leg to become tingly but then there’s the pain in my bottom as well. Unless there’s two separate issues going on. And it’s a man doctor, really don’t want to discuss this with him which is why I’ve left it so long but now I’m kicking myself as it’s obviously getting worse.

If it's been going on for 12 months why would it need an emergency same day apt? Stick to your appointment in a few weeks. It sounds like sciatica. Have you tried looking on the NHS website for stretching exercises for bad backs?

Yogagirl123 · 29/08/2018 10:20

If you have managed to get an appt today and yr symptoms are increasing, take the early appt OP.

Speaking from experience, (I have MS) GP’s take numbness and tingling very seriously.

Good luck today ☘️

Sounds like sciatica. Is it one side? They do say to check out issues you've described because of cauda equina but sounds like you have no trouble going so it's unlikely to be that.

Disclaimer: I am NOT medical. I've had sciatica for 5 months.

SofiaAmes · 29/08/2018 10:33

Could it be an SI Joint issue? Which part of your bottom?

bitheby · 29/08/2018 10:33

en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sciatica

Just go and tell the doctor. No need to be embarrassed. They've heard it all before.

Seaweed42 · 29/08/2018 12:27

Do you always use the same toilet? Have you tried putting your feet up on a little box (like a wipes box) when you are going so that your bum is lower than your knees?
At least that might tell you if it's pressure related.

Shadow1986 · 29/08/2018 20:45

Yes it’s one sided, my left side. Thanks all I will report back if I ever get to the bottom of it!
