Really bad breath! How do I get rid of it?

I've had bad breath for a long time. I get my teeth cleaned by a dental hygienist, I floss, I brush, use mouthwash, drink water etc but still has an awful smell during the day :( been dentist too who says there's no problems with my gums and got no cavities either! I don't smoke or drink

Is there any treatment I can have to help? Currently looking in Boots but not sure which product / mouthwash to get?

Do you have a cold? A stomach bug? They can create bad breath. Chew mint, actual mint leaves and look at your diet.

eggofmantumbi · 28/08/2018 22:12

This is going to sound random, but do you have any other diabetes symptoms? (Weight loss, peeing a lot, thirst, poor eyesight) I felt like this for a few weeks before being diagnosed...

letsdolunch321 · 28/08/2018 22:13

Do you have tonsil
Stones? These can trigger bad breath.

redsummershoes · 28/08/2018 22:13

what is your diet like?

maggycool · 28/08/2018 22:14

Could it be due to tonsilloliths? (Google at your own risk...) 😷

maggycool · 28/08/2018 22:14

Great minds @letsdolunch321

Possible sinus infection? I suffer with my sinuses a bit and I sometimes get stinky breath. So embarrassing Blush

Stillnotready · 28/08/2018 22:20

Have you tried one of these?

None of those things! I don't have any tonsils I had them taken out when I was a child
I don't have any diabetes symptoms, I have a healthy diet and eat plenty of fruit and vegetables. Honestly, I have followed everything that triggers bad breath but it seems like that's just what I have to put up with despite having healthy teeth and gums :(

I forgot to mention I also have a tongue cleaner, which I use regularly and change every so often as well.

Carrots

wafflyversatile · 28/08/2018 22:24

I dont think you need tonsils to have tonsil stones.

redsummershoes · 28/08/2018 22:25

I don't have tonsils but still have 'pockets' and the occassional tonsil stone.
can you have a feel with your tongue?

SlimmingMumOf1 · 28/08/2018 22:25

I can't see or feel any tonsil stones

A tooth Infection can cause really bad breath.

Immigrantsong · 28/08/2018 22:26

Are you drinking enough water? Do you speak a lot and have a dry mouth? That can cause bad breath.

MellowMelly · 28/08/2018 22:27

Dehydration can cause smelly breath. Do you drink plenty of fluids during the day?

MellowMelly · 28/08/2018 22:27

Sorry, must of been writing my question the same time as Immigrantsong Grin

Amber0685 · 28/08/2018 22:27

My mum had this and I asked if she had a dry mouth, she did, used Biotene mouthwash much better.

Meandyoumake2 · 28/08/2018 22:32

Could you have haemocromotosis ? Also try rinsing your mouth with hot salty water morning and night after brushing

WomanWise · 28/08/2018 22:35

I know this might sound unreasonable but how do you know you've got stinky breath? did somebody tell you or do you just think its stinky?

Immigrantsong · 28/08/2018 22:41

Also, do you eat enough? If you are on a diet or fasting an empty stomach can produce bad breath. Eating disorders come always with bad breath. Alcohol? Cigarettes? Coffee? Anything strong smelling? Try to think about your daily habits. If you consume too much coffee/tea you may be dehydrated, hence bad breath. Yeast infection? Gut imbalance? Have you tried probiotics? Honey?

Abitlost2015 · 28/08/2018 22:44

Hormonal changes around menopause can be the cause, if you are around that age.

SpoonBlender · 28/08/2018 22:51

Next time you go to the dentist (or doctor, for that matter) ask them to check for tonsil stone pockets in the back of your throat, and indeed about alternate causes of bad breath.
