brushing a baby's teeth?

My dd is 16mths, has 3 bottom, 3 top and two top back teeth coming out. When do I start brushing her teeth, and how? What toothpaste do I use?

edam you are right about 1000ppm fluoride being optimum.

nickinha the cat has one like that quite easy to use - for dd we used childs toothbrush / toothpaste and just brushed or let her do it and then checked - we also had to but teddy a brush to

Apparently the advice is different in Scotland and England. They advise more floride in Scotland cos we are all such lard arses eating sweets all the time. There is even a stronger baby toothpaste for the Scottish market. I was highly insulted!

Too much fluoride can make teeth mottled - it's about the only side effect. But mainly an issue where the water supply is fluoridated, I think.
BTW I have made the mistake, in a previous job as a magazine editor, of running a 'for and against' article on fluoridation of water. Never again - it's worse than MMR for getting both sides of a debate furious that you've dared to give the other room to air their views. Deluged with letters from people (on either side) ranting and utterly convinced that their view is correct and the other side are irresponsible dictators ... if anyone here has equally strong views, I am so not getting involved in that debate.
