Reflexology experts - how soon does it start working for sinuses?

I went for my first ever reflexology session today for my sinuses of concrete. When might I notice any improvement do you think, if it's going to improve? And how many sessions should I have? The reflexologist was talking about one of her clients whose sinuses start clearing halfway through the session but that didn't happen for me.
I'm starting to wonder if I am just someone that complementary therapies don't work on - tried acupuncture for sinuses last year and the practitioner had to put me in her 10 per cent failure rate.
I should add I have also been to ENT and the next option is surgery.

I have recently been in the same position as you but my fab gp said before going down the surgery route to try really strong antihistimine and nasal spray as it could be aggrivated by an allergy to dust mite. It has worked beautifully, I urge you to try it if you haven't yet.

Thanks Carmenere - I am on nasal sprays all the time and they changed it recently as the old one was giving me nose bleeds. It was working OK then as soon as I got a cold (or was it hay fever - can't always tell) the sinuses have turned to brick! Reflexology was recommended as a good thing for sinuses but I don't know if it is thought to work on people as far gone as me!

Hi crotchety, I'm a reflexologist, and I would expect it to take at least 3 or 4 treatments to respond. That said every one is different, and some people respond more quickly than others. Has this been a long term problem? Generally the longer you have suffered a problem the longer it will take to respond - I would normally advise a client to expect it to take a course of weekly treatments (4 - 6 or more) followed by monthly top ups to help the body stay in balance - or not get too far out of balance again iyswim.
Did you have any reactions at all to the treatment, good or bad, not just during but in the few days after as well? Do you know which areas the reflexologist could feel congestion in? (sorry sounds like I'm being really nosey, just curious from a refloxology pov!)
Hope that makes sense be glad to answer any questions you have about reflexology (if I can )

Hello nicmum2boys - thanks very much for your post. Well I've had rhinitis type problems all my life along with asthma and the usual allergies etc, but the sinus thing has really deteriorated in the last couple of years so I think I'm a pretty long-term case.
The reflexologist said that I had "protection" (by which I imagine she means 'orrible hard skin) over areas associated with sinuses and asthma. But she wasn't at all forthcoming about how many treatments to do.
I had the first session yesterday and can't say I've had much in the way of reaction either during the treatment or today, although I do think my nose has been easier to clear today but don't know whether it would have been anyway - it's not an amazing difference that would be unmissable. I really would like this to work but don't know how long to give it before I just go back to the GP and back to ENT.
Have you had success with sinus people?

Hi, sorry, not been online for a while, been decorating so computer been unplugged. I have treated one client who suffered with sinus pain, she noticed a marked improvement after 4 treatments.
How's it going, have you had any more treatments?

Crotchety · 14/06/2007 12:23

Hello again. Well actually I've been again this morning and the reflexologist is suggesting 4 treatments. It felt different today - more tingly and pins and needly and she said she thought the sinuses seemed better. They seem better to me as well from the head end! Certainly less stuffed up, and I am keeping an open mind as to whether this is due to the reflexology or whether the current bout of bunged-upness would have started to clear by now anyway. So I will do 4 and see. Does your sinus client come back for top ups?

Yes, she has had a top up course about 6 months after the end of her original 6 week course.
Tingly and pins and needles is a good sign, as it can be an indication of energy blockages clearing.
As to wether it is the reflexology or a coincidence, I think that is a dilema many reflexology clients have........... of course I think you probably know what my opinion would be . On a serious note if it really is working, you may not know for sure until 6 months or so down the line, if you have a recurrence and return for reflexology and find it clears up again for example.
Glad it seems to be easing, whatever the reason keep me posted on how you get on - always interested to hear reflexology experiences

Crotchety · 14/06/2007 20:30

Yes good point about having to wait for a recurrence to know if it's the reflexology working! Anyway - things are definitely clearer in the nose department and she has showed me how to have a go at myself in the meantime on my hands, once a day. All very interesting.
