Blood pressure help please

Can anyone explain blood pressure readings to me please? I have been asked to monitor at home for a week and I have a very good upper arm cuff electronic model.

As an example BP readings today:

am 1:158/99 no movement for 10 mins then am 2: 158/106

pm 1: 147/100 no movement for 10 mins then pm 2: 166/115

I am aware that the readings are very high but how can they fluctuate so much in just a day or even in just 10 mins? Does it mean something? The fluctuation I mean not the high readings.

It's completely normal for BP to go up & down a bit like that (but your readings are all high so don't be surprised if your GP thinks about treating it/investigating further).

If you are sitting there and worrying about it, it would probably go up from the stress. Blood pressure is very reactive to mental stress. Your levels are a bit high, so you might need to look at something to help sort it out. Do you have any ideas why your pressure is up?

Thanks

Sorry, it's not mine it's dh's

He's fit and exercises regularly, eats well, vegetarian, not overweight. His high BP is stressing him out though and I'm sure it's affecting the readings. His recent mot at the docs gave him a clean bill of health apart from this.

How old is he? Is there relevant family history. I'm thinking about reducing salt in my diet coz mine is higher than I think it should be, too.
