Burn advice (Sorry grim picture!)

Hi, I burnt my lower arm on a gas oven yesterday and immediately it pulled the skin off which is now gathered at the top side in this pic. I cooled it down straight after and thankfully it’s not too uncomfortable. Was away at a campsite so no first aid but covered it in clingfilm. Am now home and wondered what the best thing to do is? Should I leave it uncovered to dry out? Or cover it and if so what with, a bandage or more clingfilm? The wound is probably about 6cm long and 1cm wide. Thanks in advance

Go to a&e.

Wolfiefan · 24/08/2018 21:55

A and E tonight.
If you can't feel it then that's bad. Put nothing on it.

MrsPnut · 24/08/2018 21:55

I'd wait until the morning and go to minor injuries. Cover it with cling film in the mean time to prevent infection.

I have a scar on my arm from a serious burn caused by being drunk and sleeping with my arm on radiator when I was 18. I just treated it at home with the help of my former Matron Grandma and kept it dressed and dry. I probably should have had proper medical treatment with hindsight but it didn't get infected although it did take a few months to heal properly.

hazeyjane · 24/08/2018 21:57

Please don't put anything on it or use anti bacterial washes. No plasters, nothing.

Go to A+E.

Oddcat · 24/08/2018 21:59

If you came to our hospital, you would probably be referred to the burns dept.

Another one saying go to A&E. I have nerve damage from a nasty burn that also didn’t hurt too badly. Having had a superficial burn that size too I can tell you that one hurt so much I needed painkillers to sleep. Lack of pain is a bad sign, at the very least you need that dressing properly.

MrsBlaidd · 24/08/2018 22:03

Definitely seek medical advice. I had a similar looking burn this year and it ended up infected. GP chastised me for not going when I first burnt because they can give you Flamazine I think that's what it was called but it's a specialist cream for burns and antibiotics because of my infection.

If you get attention soon enough you might be able to get away with just the cream and bypass other nasty developments.

Hope it heals OK for you Flowers

I am scarred for life on the back of my arm after falling asleep with my arm against a radiator a few years back. It was exactly like this, only 3 different lines from the radiator. I never got it looked at properly and it’s scarred horribly. Please get it looked at to get correct treatment

NorthernLurker · 24/08/2018 22:15

That's a big, serious nasty burn. It could be infected by tomorrow. You need medical advice tomorrow. Why on earth didn't you go seek help when it happened? And didn't it puzzle you that a wound that big doesn't hurt?

NorthernLurker · 24/08/2018 22:15

Stupid typo medical advice NOW not tomorrow Grin

Wolfiefan · 24/08/2018 22:40

Listen to Northern!
Hope you're getting it looked at.

Hi, thanks for the messages. I couldn’t go last night as husband was out and kids (8&5) were sleeping. Anyway just back from Urgent Care. Dr seemed entirely uninterested in it, barely looked up from his computer and said it looked superficial. He’s given me a prescription for Flamezine (sp). He told me to leave it uncovered when I asked. Drive home with it uncovered and it hurt like a very hurty thing so maybe that’s a good sign?! Must admit I’ve covered it for the moment with cling film as I’m cold and want a jumper on and don’t want fluff sticking to the burn. Will get cream once chemist opens. Thanks for the advice, hopefully will clear up soon.
