nit combing - when do you stop checking for lice ?

This is prompted by a recent thread about children bathing themselves - people expressed surprise that it was still necessary to check for nits by the age of 10. Ds has never had nits (thanks to a weekly comb through I like to think) but occasionally notes come back from school saying that there are nits in the class...what do you think ? I'd be quite glad to stop the combing as it's a bore.

might depend on if you have a girl or boy?
dd has long hair and it's braided or in pponytails every day, so I can do a check every day. with boys I guess you don't comb their hair so much, so they would escape notice??

ds's get lice less often than DD's (they don't huddle round in groups bitching about one another just get on and kick the h*ll out of one another) you can probably do it less often perhaps alternate weeks in term time

seems like maybe your DS is not favoured by the little creatures there is a lot of overdiagnosis (reporting of the white nits which are empty egg cases and not contagious just will not come off hair)

he has his hair nice and short and I rub some Biz Niz through each school day to ward the pests off - I guess I could get away with a visual check each day maybe - never normally comb his hair.

DS is a pain in that I have almost to chase him and tie him down to comb his hair, but as it is blond I would be able to see the little tykes on his head

ds hates the combing (I am quite vigorous!) so we'd both be happy to stop it !
