Any thyroid experts out there?

Found a goiter (goita? sp) and went for blood tests. Turns out I have an underactive thyroid - never rains but it pours! Have something other than DS to blame the exhaustion on though

Going to see the GP today, if there is any one out there in the know could you let me know whether I should expect to be referred to an endocrinologist or whether this is going to be a routine GP thing? Am a bit wary after GP tried to medicate me for epilepsy rather than refer me (ended up prescribing meds that have been linked to birth defects - when I was trying to get pregnant!)

Thanks, am really appreciating mumsnet!

You dont need to be referred, your gp will prescribe you thyroxine, you should feel human again within a couple of weeks

oh and you wil get free prescriptions for as long as you have the condition, often life.
